Small Business Saturday: Zero to 180 Market in Morristown, NJ

If you’re looking to make a move to a green, more sustainable living situation then you should look to Zero to 180 Market, a zero-waste lifestyle store situated in downtown Morristown.

The store opened in December of 2020 and is the brainchild of Sabrina who owns and operates the store as a second full-time job. During the pandemic, she did a lot of baking while stuck at home and noticed something: much of the ingredients she needed came in bulk and-or left her with wasteful packaging. Remember panic buying? That’s a lot of plastic and waste.

The store was inspired by zero-waste markets she saw during her travels abroad as well as more locally in Jersey City’s Plant Base. She wanted something similar for her town of Morristown.

At Zero to 180 they are all about the “Zero Waste Movement”, a “lifestyle where people aim to eliminate their trash output completely. This means no plastic, no wrappers, no garbage. While this may seem like an unrealistic task in today’s very disposable society, everyday people all over the country are showing that it can be done. By reevaluating the way they approach the concept of trash, these leaders of the zero-waste movement are teaching the world that we all have the ability to make a difference in protecting our environment.”

The hard facts are that nine-tenths of all solid waste in the United States does not get recycled. Places like Zero to 180 Market are making progress by having customers bring in reusable containers where they can get their fill of everything from coffee beans, cleaning products, hygiene products, food, and more.

Funnels are available to help people dispense products such as spices, flours, dried fruit, and more. You only pay for what you need, and receipts are emailed to avoid the use of paper.

Other products found at the store include laundry detergent sheets, shampoo bars, bamboo toilet paper,  bamboo Q-tips, and biodegradable tampons and pads. Additionally, you can find items from local makers who make greeting cards that can be used to make flowers, reusable and refillable candles, recycled jewelry, and much more.

They currently offer farm-fresh eggs and cheese from Jersey Girl Cheese. Moving forward Sabrina hopes to work with more local gardens and farms to get fresh produce and dairy products. They are launching a CSA program in June 2021.

As a community store, Zero to 180 Market wants to promote recycling so for every purchase, you are able to donate five clean containers for other customers to use for free when shopping. They have also started FREE local composting programs for neighborhoods who want to make a difference.

And if that’s not enough to entice you to visit, they also eliminate waste by having cold brew (from NJ roaster Brother Beans in Vernon) on tap! So bring in your reusable coffee cup!
