Diner Round Up – The Westwood Diner

As you may know if you frequent this website, I love New Jersey diners. I think it is one of the things that makes NJ different and definitely not boring (like the website title says). Having said that, I had my first somewhat negative experience diner experience at the Westwood Diner. Reasonably, this could have been an off day for the diner and I don’t want this review to discourage you from going there.

The Westwood Diner, which is a pretty close to the downtown area, is a diner that is known for their breakfast (it’s considered a “pancake house”). So, while I was there I decided to get breakfast for dinner.

I decided on getting an egg white omelette w/ chicken and mushrooms (that is how it was listed in the menu). I also asked if I could swap out my hashbrowns for sliced tomatoes, which is something I had been doing a lot recently. The omelette was expensive to begin with, $11.50 for eggs etc, so at the very least I was expecting a big portion. This what what I got instead:

It’s a small omelette with half (or maybe a quarter) of a tomato and toast. It was not very filling at all.

This is what my husband got, and it looked a hell of a lot better than what I got.  You can’t go wrong with pork roll. Disappointing presentation though…

To add insult to injury, I got charged an extra dollar for my meal ($12.50). The second 1 in the 11.50 was clearly changed to a 2 with no explanation. I started getting angry that I was charged an extra $1 for half of a tomato, since there was no other reason I could have been upcharged. The omelette was already an egg white omelette…so what the heck went on here.

I did not ask our waitress about it because in the end it was only a dollar…and she was in a BAD mood the entire time we were there. The level of customer service that day was pathetic that day, and we were pretty much the only people there so it’s not like they were overwhelmed. I’m very low maintenance when it comes to going out to eat, but I left this diner with a bad taste in my mouth for a few reasons.

Again, I’m not trying to dissuade you from  going to this diner, but I can’t give it a good review on principal. I’m also not saying this diner is bad, there have been plenty of diners I’ve loved where people will argue with me on a different opinion. I will look forward to how people react to this review since this is my first negative diner review I’ve done. I’m hoping that it is my last.
