As Earth Day approaches, people all around the world are preparing to celebrate and raise awareness about environmental issues. There are plenty of New Jersey Earth Day events this weekend that you can attend and ways to get involved in your local community. From outdoor activities to educational workshops and volunteer opportunities, there are events for everyone to enjoy.

Collingswood Green Festival
April 20, 9 am – 2 pm
Celebrate spring and all things green by joining your friends and neighbors at Collingswood’s Annual Green Festival, located just off Haddon Ave on Irvin Ave near the PATCO High-Speed line. Enjoy Local sustainable food, organic gardening, water conservation, renewable energy, environmentally-friendly construction, and more. You will also get an opportunity to learn about smart green living from local activists and experts. Activities for kids include a Fun Zone featuring face painting, sidewalk chalk drawing, games, arts and crafts, and more

Earth Day Open House
April 20, 10 am – 2 pm

The Park System invites families and friends of all ages to celebrate Earth Day at the Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center. Events include guided nature walks, live animal presentations, and nature crafts. Plus, local nature organizations will be on hand to provide information.

Earth Day Spring Volunteer Event
April 20, 10 am – 3 pm

Volunteers will work under the guidance of FOPOS’ stewardship staff to perform riparian and forest restoration, and plant native species in the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve.

Earth Day Community Volunteer Day
April 20, 10 am – 12 pm

Celebrate Earth Day with the Brookdale Park Conservancy! One of their major plans for 2024 is to continue clearing around the former pondside and planting the area with native plants. They have a list of native plants suitable for those conditions and are in the process of finalizing the official planting plan and layout.

The Hunterdon County Division of Parks and Recreation Earth Day
April 20, 10:30 am – 4 pm

Join the Division of Parks and Recreation for their 20th Earth Day event! Celebrate the beauty of Planet Earth with a day filled with exciting activities. Learn about Lenape Lifeways at 11:30 AM with Carla Messinger, a Lenape descendant from Pennsylvania. Enjoy a live animal show by Rizzo’s Wildlife World at 1:00 PM. Throughout the day, interact with animals and participate in activities with local 4-H clubs. Create a recycled or natural craft to take home. Explore the work of local environmental organizations and discover the stream’s critters (bring water shoes or boots). Try fishing on the pond and experience an Earth Day StoryWalk®. The event concludes at 3:00 PM with a campfire and interactive story; feel free to bring your own campfire snack!

Essex County Earth Day Celebration
April 20, 11 am – 3 pm

The free, family-friendly event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Essex County Environmental Center, 621B Eagle Rock Avenue in Roseland. It will include hands-on educational games and activities, canoe trips, bird walks, environmental information booths, live nature-themed music and an “eco-market”.

JCPC Earth Day Celebration FREE Children Nature Arts Workshop
April 20, 11 am – 3 pm

Activities at the event include self-guided nature scavenger hunts with surprises for completed cards, learning about the Lincoln Park Farmers Market 2024 Season and receiving a free Pollinator Children Field Guide from the West Side Community Alliance (WSCA), and learning Hands-Only CPR skills with MedicZero. Participants can also meet community volunteers and park members from various organizations. Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcomed. The event is hosted by the Hudson County Improvement Authority (HCIA) and funded by the Jersey City Arts & Culture Grant and various sponsors.

Earth Day Celebration featuring The NJ Folk & Bluegrass Festival
April 20, 11 am – 4 pm

This FREE, family friendly, open air event will showcase hyperlocal local businesses, fitness, green artisans and engaging green and nature-themed activities for all ages. As an exciting new addition, this year will feature the first annual NJ Folk & Bluegrass Music Festival showcasing the area’s most talented musicians.

Celebrate Earth Day with the Northeast Earth Coalition at Crane Park in Montclair, NJ, USA, for a day of fun and environmental awareness. The event features activities, music, and workshops on sustainable practices and eco-friendly products. Join like-minded individuals and make a positive impact on our planet!

Earth Day at the New Jersey State Museum
April 21, 10 am – 3 pm

Celebrate Earth Day at the New Jersey State Museum on April 21 from 10 AM to 3 PM. This free event offers a day of activities inspired by nature. Visitors can use the sun to create a special nature-based craft, learn about pollinator gardens, and distinguish between native and non-native insects. They can also make seed bombs with native seeds, explore nature photography and local biodiversity, and hear from Museum curators about the night sky and the history of insects. Additionally, there will be a birdwatching tour of the Delaware River and the opportunity to bring home a seedling of a native NJ tree. Reflect on and share how you can take care of the Earth while celebrating nature!

Spring Festival and Earth Day

Earth Fair
April 21, 11 am – 4 pm

Attendees can immerse themselves in nature, learn about plant care, land stewardship, and personal well-being while being entertained by musicians, storytellers, presenters, and artists at Earth Fair 2024 in Historic Smithville Park. The event focuses on recycling and reusing items at home and in the garden, offering activities like dropping off plastic flowerpots and participating in a Plant Swap tent. Visitors can also explore the Recycling & Clean Communities Tent, featuring a new “Recycling Center Virtual Tour” video. Other highlights include Wheelie Good Smoothies, live music from bands like April, Mae, and the June Bugs, presentations and demos on topics such as wildlife gardening and mushroom growing, an Artisan Marketplace with upcycled goods, a Pop-Up Nature Center, kid’s activities like storytelling and the Recycle Olympics, and a variety of food trucks and a beer garden.

Bradley Beach Earth Day Festival and Green Fair

The Bradley Beach Green Fair is a free family-friendly event that promotes a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. The Gloucester County Certified Gardeners are hosting The Spring Festival and Earth Day Celebration on April 21, 2024 from 12:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Red Bank Battlefield 100 Hessian Avenue, National Park, N.J. Celebrate Trails Day – Earth Day on the East Coast Greenway
April 27, 8:30 am – 2 pm

Celebrate Trails Day is Saturday April 27 this year. FreeWalkers is delighted o join Stephen Dunn, the Biking Fireman, at this impactful event to promote the development of the Rahway Valley Railroad (RVR). You will walk north along the RVR, west along the ECG and east on the Boulevard to return to Cranford. Following the walk all are invited to join at Two Ton Brewing Co. in Kenilworth to celebrate.

Holmdel’s Earth Day Festival

Holmdel’s Earth Day Festival and Greenway Walk will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at beautiful historic Bayonet Farm. Admission, shows, tours and parking are FREE! The event is sponsored by the Holmdel Environmental Commission and CILU (Citizens for Informed Land Use). Arrive early before 11AM for a 2 mile Greenway walk, led by the pros!
