Working from a Coffee Shop

Working from a Coffee Shop: Moth Coffeehouse in Allentown, NJ

It’s rare I can spend 5 hours in a coffee shop and get some serious work done, but that’s what happened when I discovered the Moth Coffeehouse in Allentown, NJ.

Open since 2015, the Moth Coffeehouse is owned and operated by Zoe, Corky, Kris, and Alia Danch. They chose the name “Moth”after the luna moth which represents new beginnings. The building that houses the Moth Coffeehouse, the Allentown Feed Company established 1706,  is on the National Register of Historic Places.

I arrived at a very busy time and had trouble finding a place to sit near an outlet. The barista informed me that all their customers are very friendly and anyone would happily share their table with me. Not only are the customers friendly, they all seemed to know each other! Allentown is a small, historic town and it was nice to see the sense of community in their cafe.

Beverage #1: Golden Milk

New to their menu (at the time of my visit) was this superfood latte made with turmeric.

Other drinks you can find at the Moth Coffeehouse include cold brew (which they make daily), cafe au lait, espresso, lattes, cortads, macchiatos, sweet cream lattes, matcha, chai and more.

In addition to being a coffeehouse, the Moth features a full menu of (only) vegetarian and vegan items and baked goods which include gluten free items. They specialize in vegan homestyle baking and you can order full cakes there.

I couldn’t resist a blueberry banana bread (strongly recommend).

Beverage #2: Regular Coffee with Shot of Sugar Free Dark Chocolate

The Moth Coffeehouse provides coffee blends from all over the world like Columbia, Ethiopia, Sumatra, and Guatemala.

Because I was there longer than expected, a friend met me for lunch and we both ordered their veggie sandwich. Served on naan bread, this veggie and cheese sandwich was DELICIOUS.

Other items you can find. on their menu include vegan mac and cheese, a beet burger, chickpea sliders, vegan egg salad, and a soup of the day to name a few.

Beverage #3: White Peppermint Mocha Latte (decaf)

Buzzing from my last two drinks, I decided to go decaf with a seasonal White Peppermint Mocha Latte.

If coffee is not your thing, they offer tea from two companies; Wise Ape Tea from South Jersey and The Tea Spot, a women’s company based in Colorado. There is a large array of flavors to choose from, and from a primarily tea drinker this was cool to see.

The Moth Coffeehouse is also a mercantile with lots of local goods for sale (like hot sauce, chocolate etc) as well as coffee and tea accessories. So not only is it a great place to grab a drink and a meal, you can get some shopping done as well.

I loved this place (hence my 5 hours spent there) and definitely plan to return there to get some work done again. They had so many things I wanted to try!
