New Jersey Diner Review #297: The Jefferson Diner in Lake Hopatcong

Voted one of the best diners in New Jersey, the Jefferson Diner has been in operation since 1985.

They consider themselves to be one of the more famous diners in New Jersey, winning the best diner awards for both Morris and Sussex County (despite only located in Morris County). The Jefferson Diner has also been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.

Items you can find on their menu include: (Their menu is about 20 pages long + specials, so be prepared to get some reading done)
– Their “famous” Pierogies (potato & cheese pierogies, sautéed spanish onions, drizzled with a white wine lemon butter sauce)
– Their “famous” reuben
– Goat Cheese & Fig Ravioli
– Onion Ring Tower
– Avocado Fryer (fried avocados served with hot honey)
– Macaroni & Cheese Fries
– Bar Pizza
– Goliath sloppy Joe
– Jumbo hot dogs
– Piled high paninis

– THE ONLY ORIGINAL SLOPPY JERSEY BURGER( NJ taylor ham, all natural fried eggs, melted american cheese, salt, pepper, ketchup, jersey style)
– a full list of gluten free items
– a full list of Greek specials including Guy Fieri’s Favorite Greek Platter
…and MUCH MUCH MUCH more. Wowza!

Their desserts are incredible and they have cookies the size of your head.

They also have an interesting cocktail menu with items like the “Chai Tini”, “Pom-peno Tito Rita” and a Cider House Mule.

I did not do right by the Jefferson Diner, meaning I did not arrive at the diner as hungry as I should have been. I did not have room for an appetizer or dessert, or even a big meal. I watched all the amazing food go by me knowing I could only eat so much…

To be fair I did order two very amazing things off their menu, and one of their most reasonably priced items: the 1/2 sandwich and soup.

I had to get their famous lobster bisque, which was AMAZING. Wish I ate more of it, wish I ordered it in a bread bowl…but alas I was not that hungry.

For my sandwich I chose turkey on rye. Their turkey is fresh and roasted daily, white meat only. The meal also came with fries and was only $8.99!

My husband got a turkey burger which was also freshly made and looked delicious.

Overall I loved my experience and this very popular and busy diner and will be making a second visit the next time I’m in the area.
