New Jersey Celebrates Día de Los Muertos at These Events

It’s Dia de Los Muertos time! El Día de los Muertos is observed in Mexico and throughout the world this time of year, where family and friends gather to remember and honor those who have passed before us. Here in New Jersey, you’ll find different events honoring this celebration that are open to the public.

New Jersey Día de Los Muertos Events:

Dia De Los Muertos: Day of the Dead Celebration
October 27, 5PM – 9PM

Celebrate the Day of the Dead in Washington with a Mariachi Band, sugar skull face painting, send a message to your deceased loved ones in the fire pit and at 7:30 pm cozy up under the pavilion to watch Encanto on the outdoor movie screen. Food will be available for purchase and of course popcorn.

End of the Harvest 2022 – Day of the Dead Celebration
October 29, 12PM – 2PM

It’s time to celebrate the traditional End of the Harvest Celebration. The event will celebrate gardening 2022 achievements and honor dedicated volunteers for their incredible community work. Plus – take advantage of the season to celebrate the Monarch Butterfly migration to Mexico and its ancient connection with Mexican culture and the celebration of the Day of the Dead. Authentic Mexican food will be served as well as refreshments. A Mariachi band will be entertaining the audience

Riverview Farmers Market’s Dia De Los Muertos

The Riverview Farmers Market will hold a Dia de Los Muertos / Days of the Dead Celebration on Sunday, Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Day of the Dead at BarBacoa
November 1, 5PM – 10PM

Celebrate Day of the Dead at BarBacoa with a jammin’ Grateful Dead cover band. Street party is on Nov. 1 from 5-10pm, sponsored by @therealvodkasalad. Come dance in the street and revel in amazing barbecue, tacos, and more as we say goodbye to outdoor service for the season with a Day of the Dead fiesta.

Magnolias On The Green is also sponsoring a food drive. Please bring non-perishable items in reusable shopping bags to donate to Ocean County Food Pantries. Princeton El Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)
November 5, 3PM – 5PM

Celebrate el Día de los Muertos with the Arts Council of Princeton! Join us for a free, family-friendly outdoor festival to learn about this culturally rich holiday with music by Mariachi Oro de Mexico, dance by El Grupo De Danza Folklorica La Sagrada Familia, delicious food from El Sabor Oaxaqueño, and hands-on projects inspired by traditional folk art. The Arts Council connects the traditions of the holiday by building a community altar dedicated to loved ones, making sugar skulls, decorating with Celosia and Cempasuchil flowers, and featuring local traditional food and drink of Mexico.

Sugar Skull! A Dia de Muertos Musical Adventure
November 12, 3PM

Meet Sugar Skull, a charismatic candy skeleton determined to help a 12-year-old girl get closer than ever before to her family’s rich traditions. Sugar Skull! is a joyous, heartfelt adventure that delves into the rich, tuneful traditions of Día de los Muertos.
