My Starfleet Academy Experience at the Liberty Science Center!

Ever want to be initiated at Starfleet Academy? Then head out to the Liberty Science Center, where you can check out their newest out-of-this-world adventure: Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience. This fun, interactive exhibit will be at LSC until May 28th, 2018.

My husband and I had a lot of fun training as newly minted cadets in the 26th century. As part of your “training” you travel through nine different zones, and complete science, engineering, medical, and command training to navigate your way from orientation through graduation.

You record all of your training on a wrist tracker in each zone. Very high tech!

You even get to do the Kobayashi Maru training exercise!

At the end I found out that I would be training to work in Communications for Starfleet…which seemed appropriate.

While you walk around the exhibit you learn how Star Trek, a show that started in the 1960s, paved the way for many of today’s cutting-edge technologies—such as a functional tricorder, NASA’s warp drive theory, and experiments involving phasers and teleporters.

Other highlights included viewing actual props and costumes from the franchise (including tribbles!).

And my favorite part? Getting to see what you would look like beaming in at the transporter.

Both Trekkies and non-Trekkies will be engaged by the science behind the science fiction. I, a non-Trekkie, had fun with all the interactive quizzes and games as part of my Starfleet Academy training. My husband, a Trekkie, had an awesome time overall (plus we went for his birthday).

To visit the Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience at LSC you must purchase a Star Trek Premium Pass or Star Trek Combination Pass. These passes also include access to general admission to the Liberty Science Center (which is also fun for kids AND adults).
