Stingrays, Sharks, and a Sloth…oh my! My trip to the Seaquest Aquarium in Woodbridge

“There’s an aquarium in Woodbridge?” That’s a question I’ve been asked this past week after visiting the Seaquest Aquarium located at the Woodbridge Mall. Why yes, there IS an aquarium in Woodbridge and it’s been open since December 2019.

Exhibits in the aquarium range from visiting creatures from the Icelandic Fishing Village, the Great Wall of China, the Amazon River, and more. Animals and sea creatures of five different continents are represented at SeaQuest Woodbridge. Where else can you see tropical birds, porcupines, sharks, pigs,  and a hairless guinea pigs in one place.

I ventured to the aquarium with my friends and their young daughter, and I loved seeing the animals through her eyes. She loved the turtles, feeding the fish, seeing the sharks (all sharks are baby sharks), and interacting with their resident toucan.

One of my favorite experiences while visiting was making the acquaintance of Flash, the aquarium’s resident sloth. Sloths are known for being slow, so getting the opportunity to feed her a carrot was a lengthy and delightful experience.

It’s hard to pick a favorite moment from my trip there, but snorkeling in their 36,000-gallon tank filled with reef sharks, stingrays & hundreds of tropical fish was definitely a unique experience. I never thought I would hand-feed a stingray, feel a shark swim by my feet, or snorkel underwater with fish swimming around me. I always say that life is about experiences, not things, and this was an experience that I will always remember.

Pricing for the aquarium is reasonable, with the option to add on experiences like feeding animals, swimming with the stingrays etc. I highly recommend their VIP experience which includes the string ray tank, feeding Flash the sloth, and feeding their two Asian Otters.

You can also purchase tokens for feeding the creatures as as well as using them to enjoy additional experiences. For the most part, most feeding experiences require 1-2 tokens, but there are some experiences that cost a little bit extra.

I pulled my tokens to interact with Bengal Cats…

as well as interacting with flying squirrels! This was a very special experience, at one point I had all six squirrels in my two hands.
