Red Bank Creates Broadwalk Plaza to create innovative outdoor dining & shopping options

Red Bank RiverCenter (RiverCenter) is excited to announce that diners can still enjoy their favorite local dishes and drinks in a charming new outdoor setting. In an unprecedented move, Red Bank will close Broad Street from 4 p.m. Thursday to 10 p.m. Sunday each week in order to help businesses recover from the impact of COVID-19, as restrictions from the State of New Jersey are reduced.

Restaurants have created town-approved seating plans and have conformed to all State safety and precautionary measures relating to social distancing and COVID-19 related issues. All restaurants will follow the State mandates for outdoor dining which include: seating tables six feet from each other, limiting eight customers to a table and requiring employees to wear face coverings and gloves. Many restaurants are also encouraging reservations and are offering a QR-code system for touchless menus.

The outdoor plaza looks similar to a European street with string lights hanging across Broad Street, elegant uplighting, roped off seating and a sea of chic umbrellas. Red Bank is buzzing with a new energy as locals and visitors from all over the Tri-State area come to enjoy some of New Jersey’s best dining options in a unique setting. The plaza makes the perfect pit stop for commuters traveling to and from the shore, looking to enjoy incredible cuisine in a safe environment.

Retailers located on these street closures have placed merchandise in front of their stores so you can partake in shopping before or after dining. You can also enjoy music and street performers on Saturdays through September as part of Red Bank’s StreetLife event series. The sidewalks of Red Bank have come alive with music and entertainment, with StreetLife performances taking place at various locations throughout the business district, weather permitting.

“The plazas are an opportunity for Red Bank to remind locals and visitors that our small businesses are open and ready to serve them safely and deliciously,” Laura Kirkpatrick, RiverCenter Executive Director said. “We are fortunate to have municipal leadership willing to adapt and help us make outdoor dining and shopping better than ever in our close-to-the-shore town. It’s our great experiment!”

Broad Street (north of Wallace Street to Front Street) will be closed for outdoor dining and shopping from 4 p.m. Thursdays to 10 p.m. on Sundays. Visitors can find parking on the streets or in one of the four public lots in town: East Side Parking Lots, Marine Park, White Street Parking Lot, and English Plaza Parking Lot.
