Brewing Tradition: Exploring the Rich Flavors and Culture of Brotherton Brewing

Brotherton Brewing is a hidden gem located in the heart of Atco, New Jersey. This family-owned craft brewery is known for its exceptional beers and locally-sourced ingredients, which make for a unique and flavorful drinking experience.

Dan and Keith Oriente have established a welcoming environment at their brewery, complete with a family-friendly vibe. The duo handles the operations while Keith’s daughter, Sam, manages the taproom, which is housed in a former firehouse.

The space artfully blends its brewery concept with a charming touch of firehouse nostalgia. The taproom offers plenty of indoor seating options and a lovely outdoor area, both of which are open to kids and dogs, making it an ideal spot for the whole family to enjoy.

The brewery is named after the town of Brotherton, which was once a bustling community of the Lenape tribe. The Lenape were known for their agricultural practices, which included growing crops like corn, beans, and squash. This tradition is reflected in the beer names and branding at Brotherton Brewing, which features images of corn and other local flora.

The beers themselves are truly exceptional, with a range of styles to suit any palate. Whether you’re in the mood for a hoppy IPA or a rich, malty stout, Brotherton has you covered.

Brotherton Brewery presents an array of beer styles with whimsical names that celebrate South Jersey’s local culture, including Cedar Wudder, Jersey Devil Double IPA, and Pine Barrens Pilsner. Visitors can enjoy their full selection of brews in the taproom, while some titles are also available for takeout and distributed to nearby liquor stores.

During my visit, I had a flight with a seasonal Raspberry Ganache Stout, their Belgian beer Dead of Winter,  Soul Meets Body (Vanilla Cream Ale), and their hard seltzer, the Holy Citrus.

In addition to its delicious beers and welcoming atmosphere, Brotherton Brewing is also committed to sustainability and supporting local agriculture. They source many of their ingredients from nearby farms and are committed to reducing their carbon footprint through eco-friendly practices like composting and recycling.

Overall, Brotherton Brewing is well worth a visit for anyone looking to explore the vibrant craft beer scene in New Jersey. With exceptional beers, a welcoming atmosphere, and a commitment to sustainability and local agriculture, it’s a must-visit destination for beer lovers and anyone who appreciates great food and drink.
