Mustache Bill’s Diner in Barnegat Light: Review

While I was visit Long Beach Island, I knew I had to visit at least one of the local diners when I was there. I knew about Mustache Bill’s Diner, and was recommended it many times, so I decided to check it out. Fun Fact: Mustache Bill’s has been featured on “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives”.

Located near Barnegat Lighthouse, Mustache Bill’s Diner is a small local diner that is open for breakfast and lunch. I already knew I was going to love it when I saw that it was a classic chrome diner. Two important facts you should know before heading to Mustache Bill’s Diner: They are CASH ONLY, and they are closed for most of the Winter.

When we walked inside I was already charmed by their wait staff. Their hostess was super sweet, and our waitress was fantastic. Our service at the diner was one of the best we’ve ever had.

The interior of the diner is just as retro as their exterior. I loved all the chrome, plus their seating was a mint green color which is one of my favorite colors. You know your diner experience is going to be great if you’re already pleased before your food comes!

Based on photos I had seen, I knew that this diner has a mustache shaped pancake. However, this option was not on the menu. Since that was something I was knew ahead of time I wanted to order, I asked our waitress about it. Apparently they do offer it, but it’s not mentioned on their menu! I kind of felt like I was ordering off their secret menu, even though a lot of people know about it. So if you decide you also want a cool mustache pancake, make sure to ask for it!

My husband and I decided to split the pancake, and when we cut it in half it also resembled a whale (The pancake also looks like two whales kissing). It was DELICIOUS! You gotta love a pancake made from scratch!

Since my eyes were bigger than my stomach, I also ordered a chicken cheesesteak which came with hand cut shoe string fries. Hands down, one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had at a diner. And their fries? Equally amazing! I ended up taking half of it home because the portion size was so huge.

Mustache Bill’s Diner has climbed into my top 5 diners so far. Between the food, the service, and the retro motif I was in love. Next time I’m in LBI, I will definitely be going back.
