White Rose Hamburgers: Review

I finally got a chance to visit White Rose Hamburgers in Highland Park (they also have a new location in New Brunswick), a place that is famous for having one of the best hamburgers in New Jersey. They set up shop in the 1950s and they have not changed too much since that.

Some would debate that this is technically not a diner and more of a burger joint instead. I’m somewhere in the middle. Because it’s open 24 hours and serves breakfast all day, I would argue that it is a diner, but it’s definitely not a traditional diner.

Located in downtown Highland Park, White Rose Hamburgers has their own small parking lot. They have a small location so it makes sense why they don’t need as much parking, and most orders are to-go. All of their seating are stools facing towards the windows, so if you’re going with a group it could be difficult to sit/talk together. They also don’t have waiters or waitresses, so all ordering is done at the counter.

Their menu is minimal so it’s easy to make a decision, and their prices are EXTREMELY reasonable.  A hamburger, which is what they are known for, is only $3.50 and it’s only 10 cents to add cheese to it. A large fries will only cost you $2.25. Lunch for two cost us under $10.

All hamburgers are made with onions, so if you’re not into that or you have allergies, then this is not the hamburger for you. I personally loved it, and I enjoyed seeing it made on the grill right in front of me. That’s fresh! They also serve it on a nice baked bun rather than the kind you see in packs of 8 at the supermarket.

If you’re not into hamburgers they do have other options including chicken fingers, gyros, breakfast sandwiches, cheesesteaks, BLTs and more. For the vegetarians, options are grilled cheese, mozzarella sticks, onion rings and fries. It is not the healthiest place to eat, but it definitely the place to find drunk people at 2am.

White Rose Hamburgers has been around for a long time because they are authentic with quality food at great prices. Even though this is more a burger joint than a diner, I would definitely recommend it to the Jerseyan diner goer who loves burgers, fried food, and loves grabbing a bite to eat at all hours of the day.
