Downtown Diner in Cranford: Review

The Downtown Diner located in Downtown Cranford (hence the name) is a great little spot directly across from a train station! If you find yourself walking around Downtown Cranford (which is a GREAT area by the way), I highly recommend checking out this diner.

I knew I was going to enjoy this diner when I walked in. Who doesn’t love being greeted my Clark Gable?

The diner itself is on the newer side. It has a great diner counter, and although it’s small diner it is convenient to everything in town. I personally enjoyed sitting in my booth and watching the trains go by.

For a little diner, they have a BIG menu! Their menu is great, has lots of options, and their meals are very affordable which is always a big plus when I’m at a diner. Their extensive breakfast menu included “Sky High French Toast” among other delicious and tempting options. The “Chunky Monkey” pancakes (chocolate chips and bananas) caught my eye as well…

Other tempting things on their menu included a full list of fun paninis and burgers (their Jersey Burger had pork roll and cheese). Their menu was so great and so big it made it hard to make a decision on what to eat!

Pretty much everything on the menu includes soup, so despite it being a hot day I ended up getting chicken and rice soup which was VERY good.

Their soup is homemade and can be bought by the cup, bowl, or to go. Sadly the original owner, aka the “Soup King” John Priovolos passed away in May 2016, but their homemade soup tradition lives on. “Soup King John’s Homemade Soups” are featured on the menu, and I personally feel the soup stands out on it’s own as a meal in itself.

I went to the Downtown Diner during the day and they had fantastic lunch specials, so of course I had to get one (I cannot pass up a good deal). Although I wasn’t that hungry, I couldn’t resist a chicken franchaise meal for under $10.

Yeah…I took most of it home.

I loved the Downtown Diner and it’s family owner, community vibe. The food was fantastic and didn’t hurt my budget, and I overall enjoyed my visit there.
