Diner Round Up – The Windjammer Diner in Somers Point

FullSizeRender

I got a chance to go to the Windjammer Diner and Restaurant when I was visiting Ocean City (NJ…not MD). It is directly on your way to Ocean City before you get over the bridge, in the town of Somers Point.

This diner has definitely become more of a restaurant than a diner. I definitely did not get a “diner” vibe off of it at all. For starters, the wait staff is very dressed up…it seemed out of place. They also have a nice sized bar with lots of TVs. At the time we were there, it was attracting an older crowd of locals.

The menu did not offer breakfast all day which I was disappointed about. Their menu was also very expensive and kind of limited. (The menu that is currently online is not exactly what I saw in person) However, they did offer really great dinner specials for a Friday night which including a soup or salad and a dessert.

My husband and I were hungry, so we decided on ordering an appetizer. We got fried mac and cheese which was AMAZING.

It might have been the best mac and cheese I’ve ever had. I should also add, that we might not have ordered an app had we know we’d be getting a large basket of bread (including banana bread AND cinnamon bread!). Needless to say, we were full before our meals came.

Since we were by the shore,  I decided to get a crab cake sandwich which had a spicy roasted red pepper aioli sauce. It was delicious.

If you keep in mind that this diner is more on the restaurant side, and that you’re in a touristy area so it’s more expensive than usual…I think you’ll enjoy this diner. The quality of the food and the service was amazing, and that is always important.
