Working From A Coffee Shop: Jola Coffee in North Caldwell

Open since 2017, Jola Coffee is a cute family owned spot in North Caldwell, NJ located on Bloomfield Ave. The café, located near Caldwell University, is open seven days a week.

Jola Coffee is owned by Larry & Jodi Fundler who decided to open a coffee shop after leaving their previous careers. Their definition of “Jola” is the state of consistently treating others in a warm, friendly generous manner causing desire for them to return.

The first thing that stood out to me while I sipped my coffee was that they’re clearly a community driven coffee shop. It seemed like everyone knew one another and their baristas had their regular coffee orders memorized. Impressive!

Beverage #1: Iced Coffee with Almond Milk

Jola Coffee proudly serves Counter Culture Coffee, a North Carolina based sustainable coffee distributor that directly collaborates with artisans who grow their own coffee and farmers. The sustainable coffee model involves working with progressive and environmentally sensitive farms in the trade.

Their coffee list consists of hand brews, cold brews, Americanos, Cappuccinos, Cortados, Mochas, and Espressos. They also serve seasonal blends and “Jolappes” which are frozen drinks some of which involve coffee.

Beverage #2: Blueberry Hibiscus Tea

Jola Coffee serves Rishi Tea products, an organically certified direct trade importer of organic teas and botanicals from around the world. As soon as I saw Blueberry + Hibiscus I was sold! (Definitely recommend). They also have chai lattes, matcha, and specialty lemonades.

In addition to beverages, they also serve freshly made muffins, grab and go food items, and baked goods.

Some of their baked goods come from Zest, a Fairfield, NJ a vegan and gluten free restaurant and meal prep company. I enjoyed a “Cacao Cookie Monster” made with all natural vegan and gluten ingredients. It was delicious!

Thanks to their free Wi-Fi and cozy environment I was able to get almost 3 hours of work done! I recommend Jola Coffee for friendly service and great coffee
