Working From A Coffee Shop: Bubby’s Beanery in Toms River

Bubby’s Beanery describes themselves as a “coffee shop with a music addiction”. Located in downtown Toms River, this hip coffee shop is the perfect place for a caffeine and a music fix.

Open since July 2018, Bubby’s Beanery is a local coffee shop on Washington St where you can expect organic and fair trade coffee, local pastries and bakery items, friendly service, and a truly unique musical experience. They are open every day, and as their door says “8 Days a Week”.

The coffee shop is owned by John and Jennifer Earp who wanted to create a family friendly coffee shop with a music infusion. The name of the shop comes from their children Aiven (aka Bubby) a classic rock fan and Chaelyn (aka Bean or Beany) who is more of a performance theatre fan.

Their coffee blends come from all around the world including Africa, Columbia, Mexico, and Nicaragua. Their coffee is named after popular rock anthems and music artists including “Purple Haze”(African/Central Blend with notes of Chocolate, Hazelnut, Pecan), “Midnight Rider” (Ethipopian Coffee with notes of Dark Chocolate and Blueberry), and “Folsom Prison Blues” (A Decaf Mexican Coffee with notes of cocoa, honeysuckle, and tangerine).

Beverage #1: Brain Stew (chocolate almond banana coconut matcha aka delicious)

Their tea blends are named after songs and female music icons including Ella Fitzgerald (decaf herbal tea), Madonna (Morrocan Mint Green Tea), and Etta James (organic tumeric and gingerroot).

Non coffee/tea options include their Chocolate Town Hot Chocolate made with a fire roasted marshmallow and graham cracker.

In addition to coffee and tea, Bubby’s Beanery has a selection of gourmet muffins, croissants, Brooklyn Bagels, Crownies (chocolate chip brownie bars) and other baked goods. They also serve different styles of avocado toast, salad, sandwiches etc.

In addition to being family friendly and pet friendly (plenty of outside seating) they are environmentally conscious. They use biodegradable and compostable cups, lids and straws at their shop. Their decor is made up of recycled furniture that gives it both a vintage feel and help them stay “Green”.

Where else can you grab a coffee and buy a record? Bubby’s Beanery has a selection of records, cds, and tapes as well as other musical merchandise. Live music can also be expected during a visit!

Unfortunately it isn’t currently the best place to get work done if you need the internet. Although they plan to expand and will provide free WiFi when they do, Bubby’s Beanery is a place where this blogger can’t do too much. I did enough work as one beverage could get me through.
