A Diner Review Re-Do: The Colonial Diner in East Brunswick, NJ
Originally reviewed in June of 2014, the Colonial Diner is one of many Colonial Diners in the Garden State*. The Colonial Diner in East Brunswick has been open since 1959 and has been rated the best diner in Middlesex County for the last 4 years in a row.
Located right off on Route 18, this popular diner is located next door to Magnifico’s Ice Cream. The diner shares the same owners as the Skylark Diner in Edison and the Americana Diner in East Windsor. Although their diner menus are similar, each diner stands out on their own with their own style and menu options.
Things that stood out to me on their menu include:
– Pigskin Pierogis
– Homemade Mozzarella Triangles (instead of frozen mozzarella sticks)
– A Soup & Salad bar
– Greek Style Liver
– Carolina Chicken Pot Pie
– Mile High Meatloaf
– Specialty Burgers
– Nutella Bananas Foster Crepes
– Lots of creative omelettes
– Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice
– Irish Steel Cut Oatmeal (pears, sun dried apricots, brown sugar and cinnamon)
– Granny Smith Oat Cakes
– Sky High French Toast
– Chorizo and Egg Quesadilla
– The Hangover Burger (pork roll, bacon, cheddar cheese and an over easy egg on toasted brioche)
…and much more!
I checked out the diner for Sunday brunch and the place was packed! Generally the Colonial Diner is pretty busy.
I started my meal with a cold brew coffee. The Colonial Diner uses Lacas Coffee, one of my favorite coffee brands. I also enjoy their light bulb looking coffee carafe.
For my main meal I got the California Avocado Toast made with mashed avocado, 2 fried egg & tomato on multi grain toast with a fruit cup on the side. Delicious and healthy! The prefect brunch meal.
My husband got a grilled cheese that looked AMAZING.
Their dessert menu is one of the betters ones in the state and it includes cookies, milkshakes, cakes, tiramisu, and much more. I recommond their Girl Scout Cookie Shake and The Big Cannoli which is filled to order.
The diner is little pricey, but nonetheless the food is VERY good and the portions are a great size. The staff is always very friendly and professional too. I have never had a bad meal there, and I have been there many times.
Fun Fact: I have visited this diner while they were filmed an episode of “What Would You Do?”.
*All Colonial Diners share the name in common, but are all independently owned and run.
