Official Press Release:

Get up, get active and join the Union Township Chamber of Commerce again this year at its Fourth Annual Mayor’s Day 5K Run on Saturday, September 20, 2014. Club Metro USA has signed on again this year as Event Sponsor.

Held rain or shine, the event will start at Union High School on Cooke Drive. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the actual race commencing at 10:00 a.m. Participants will traverse a USATF – certified course beginning and ending at the high school.

“This event is a proud part of the always popular community-wide Mayor’s Day, featuring the 5K Run in the morning and the Festival on the Green in the afternoon,” said Chamber Executive James Masterson. “We are grateful to the Township of Union Board of Education for generously hosting this event, and to all of our sponsors and volunteers.”

Prizes will be awarded for various categories, and t-shirts and gift bags will be distributed to the first 400 participants.

Masterson added that a portion of the proceeds will go to benefit a local resident, three-year-old Aiden Khi Shanklin of Union, who was diagnosed with several neurological conditions a few months after his birth. Aiden’s daily care and medical needs can be quite costly, but he continues to make strides, thanks to intensive physical, occupational, speech and developmental therapies.

“We are so pleased that Union Mayor Clifton People shared Aiden’s story with us, and we are thrilled to be able to help him in some way through this event,” Masterson said. “We encourage our community to come out in support of this incredible little boy and his family, while enjoying a fun day with their own families as well.”
