5 New Jersey Zoos and Animal Preserves to Check Out During Quarantine

If you’re like me, you love animals and now that the weather is warmer you were hoping to visit them at different zoos and animal preserves around the state. Unfortunately, we are in quarantine and most of us cannot leave the house. Since these animals still need care, these brave caretakers have been working to make sure they get the food, water, and attention they deserve. Here are 5 NJ Zoos and Animal Preserves that are updating us via social media for a virtual tour of their zoos.

1. Cape May Zoo is hosting a virtual Zoo School while they are closed! Join them Monday through Friday at 11:30 AM as they take you on a virtual tour of the zoo! Each day they will feature a short clip of a different animal and teach you all about it. At the end of every clip, they have a challenge for YOU to do right at home. You can show them how you completed your challenges by sharing photos or videos on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram by using #cmczooschool.

2. Cohanzick Zoo established in 1934, is New Jersey’s First Zoo and they’ve been having some fun during the quarantine. Whether it’s hosting their Virtual Zoobrarys on their third Thursdays:

Or sharing live updates of their animals, including Sassy the pig roaming the zoo (who normally is afraid of crowds).

Be sure to check out their Facebook page for more.

3. Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange may be closed to the public, but they’re updating their Facebook page with fun animals to check out in the meantime. Their sea lions are teaching us the correct way to practice social distancing.

4. The Raptor Trust in Millington may be closed, but their Facebook page is still operating with lots of information about birds, raptors, and endangered species; many of which they have in their care. They are also providing trivia on social media to keep you entertained and guessing!

5.  One of my favorite places, the Lakota Wolf Preserve, may not be open to the public but they are sharing videos of their animals being taken care of on Facebook.

So cute!

Thank you to all these hard workers who are keeping our animals safe and entertained. This has definitely been a good distraction for me, and I hope you and your families enjoy!
