My July in New Jersey
Another month of Summer is gone! Here is a list of awesome things I did this July to give you ideas on what YOU can do in New Jersey! For more adventures, be sure to follow me on Instagram @newjerseyisntboring and Snapchat: NJISNTBORING
July 2nd – I spent most of my day at the Heroes and Villians FanFest held at the Meadowlands Expo Center, seeing celebrities from hit shows like Arrow, the Flash, and Agent Carter. It was a lot of fun!
We saw a lot of fun cosplayers, met some great vendors, and attending some great panels. For more photos click HERE
Later that day we went to my first Fireworks display for the weekend in Sayreville, NJ. They had a pretty epic finale at the end which I captured on my phone. It doesn’t do it justice, but it was a great fireworks display from beginning to end.
July 3rd – I spent the morning at the Red Bank Farmer’s Market looking at produce, flowers, and local vendors. The Farmers Market is held every Sunday from 9am to 2pm seasonally.
They also had a few food trucks there, including the Freezy Freeze Food Truck which has coffee and liquid nitrogen ice cream. So good! I chose peanut butter ice cream and it was delightful. Watching it being made was so much fun.
We spent the rest of the day walking around Red Bank (which I captured on snapchat NJISNTBORING)
That night we traveled to Boyd Park in New Brunswick for another fireworks display on the water. Another epic finale!
Pretty epic finale in #newbrunswicknj! #njisntboring #newjersey #rutgers #rutgersuniversity #nj

July 4th – I had a fabulous July 4th in Milltown, NJ. Milltown takes their July 4th very seriously with events going on from morning to night.
I went there specifically for the parade, which included military, local clubs, and the MUMMERS. I also enjoyed the celebration which followed (free hot dogs and soda).
Later that day I enjoyed their fireworks. Good thing the rain held out for that amount of time!! (last fireworks video, I swear)
July 6th – On the 6th I got a Behind the Scenes Tour of the State Theatre in New Brunswick! It was very cool. I got to learn a lot about the history, see the venue empty, walk on stage(with the ghost light), see dressing rooms, and more!
July 7th – July 7th was my husband and I’s 10 year anniversary. We originally had a whole structured plan, but we scrapped it and went to one of our favorite places, Asbury Park, and decided to be spontaneous! While we were there we went to Capitoline for brick oven pizza and processco…
Walked to the boardwalk where I took a picture of the Stone Pony, one of the first places we met before we started dating…
And ate ice cream of course! July was national ice cream month so I ate as much ice cream as possible. This time we went to Cookman Creamery and had chocolate banana and Nutter Brudder. I strongly recommend it.
Overall, a beautiful night in Asbury Park!
July 8th – Friday night I got to explore downtown Cranbury, which has a lot of great restaurants. We decided to check out Teddy’s Restaurant, which is kind of a diner considering it serves breakfast all hours etc, but it not technically a diner. We lucked out because they were playing live music that night, and the local crowd was singing and dancing. It was a lot of fun! Great food and friendly service too!
And what would Friday night be without ice cream? Very pleased to discover Gil and Bert’s, which had a long line despite having torrential rain. Their homemade ice cream is amazing! I highly recommend the salted caramel truffle.
July 9th -I had a lot of fun at the NJ Bacon Fest at the Tuckerton Seaport. So much bacon! For more on the NJ Bacon Fest, you can read my article! For more pictures, click here!
I also got to add another lighthouse to my list…the Tucker’s Island Lighthouse!
Of course when I was down in Tuckerton I had to visit the local diner, the Dynasty Diner, and had a great chicken salad sandwich. For more information, read my Review!
If you think I did enough eating that day…you are probablu right! But I went to downtown Somerville and join my friends at Sushi Palace for all you can eat sushi! SO amazingly good and fresh! Basically that Saturday was a great day of eating.
So much #sushi! #njisntboring #njeats #somervillenj #downtownsomerville #nj #newjersey

July 11th – I headed to beach in Sea Bright!
I got a behind the scenes tour of Gracie and the Dudes at their Sea Bright location. Their ice cream is FANTASTIC. For more info on that, click HERE
After ice cream we walked around on the beach and caught the sunset…
and ended the night sharing a delicious pizza and half price cocktails at Tommy’s Tavern.
July 15th – I had a whole night planned…but unfortunately I twisted my ankle! No worries though. I spent the evening with friends and ordered pizza from my local pizza place!
July 16th – I spend a few hours in Wildwood! You can read about that HERE. My visit included beach time, a vodka tasting, a diner, TWO ice cream trips for my ice cream quest, and a HELICOPTER ride. A pretty productive day limping around Wildwood.
July 17th – I went to another vodka tasting and tour, this time at Claremont Distillery in Fairfield!
I also celebrated National Ice Cream Day at Super Scoops in Parsippany. Cookie Monster ice cream FTW!
My trip to the area also included a visit with the gang at Twin Elephant Brewing Company. For more on my visit there, click HERE (Snapchat: NJisntBoring)
July 19th – I made the trip to Callahan’s in Norwood (Bergen County) for Epic hot dogs and food in honor of National Hot Dog Month. Such a fun restaurant, and the hot dogs are legendary. I think I ate twice my weight in food that day. Read more about that HERE
July 20th – I went to Demented Brewing Company in Middlsex, NJ and shared a flight…
AND I got a demo of Fizzics, which was really cool. Now I have one at home so my beer can always taste like it came from the tap. You should definitely check them out!
July 21st – NJ Isn’t Boring meetings call for pizza! Fun things coming soon from the NJIB team!
July 22nd – Friday night began with going to Sebastian’s Schnitzel Haus in Wrightstown. This German American restaurant blew my mind! There were so many things to look at and the food was as authentic as it comes.
Afterwards I went to Laurita Winery for their 80s night party, and of course we drank some wine. Great night with great music and friends!
July 23rd – I had a wild day in Jersey City filled with coffee, beer, gelato, and wings! I’ll write more about my experience and tips on things to do in Jersey City next month. For now, read all about my trip to Departed Soles, the only brewery in Jersey City.
July 24th – I traveled to Morris County and visited the Whippany Railroad Museum which was pretty cool! We got to go inside of trains, see the museum in action etc. Definitely a cool place to bring kids (or any train enthusiast). We also checked out the Whippany Diner which was .2 miles away. That review will be posted in August!
July 26th – My friend and I decided to class it up and check out Le Malt Lounge in Colonia. We enjoyed a lovely evening of wine tastings from Argentina, fantastic food, and tango dancers! So much fun!
July 28th – It was a rainy day so my plans got cancelled (boo!) so I made up for it by going to my local diner (yay!). The early bird special at the Old Bridge diner cannot be beat! $11.50 for a full entree, soup or salad, coffee or tea, AND dessert.
July 29th – Busy Friday! I started at a behind the scenes tour of SNJ Today, located in Millville. Great station with great people! They are definitely shining a positive light on South Jersey and things that are happening there.
Then I stuck around town and headed to Jersey Shine which had their grand opening the following day. Great moonshine! Free samples!
After Jersey Shine, I headed across the street to Glasstown Brewing Co and shared a flight with my friend.
Checked out the local diner, the Millville Queen Diner. Review posted later this month.
AND, last but not least, went to Flipper’s Custard for homemade banana custard. Nom nom nom.
July 30th – Sigh. On July 30th I had tickets to the Quick Chek Balloon Festival in Readington, NJ. Despite seeing fantastic balloon photos the day before and that morning, we were subjected to this:

I have to say, the way the organizers handled the rain that day was extremely disappointing. I saw THOUSANDS of people come in, have to pay $10 for parking and a $35 dollar entry fee just to get rained on and have all the events cancelled. Even the vendors closed up their spaces! And this wasn’t a drizzle, this was a downpour. No refunds, no apologies. Such a shame.
After that, I came home dried myself off and went out to a fun trivia night at a local bar, Ryan’s Pub. My friend won too! At the end of the day, you need to make the best of a bad situation. Despite being upset at the event earlier that day, I did have fun with my friends.
July 31st – I spent the last day of July at the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park! Despite the rain, I had a great time hanging with a group hosted by America’s Best Racing.
My July was filled once again with food, events, fireworks, parades, day trips and so much more! My August calendar is already getting pretty filled. Looking forward to the rest of Summer!
