Working from a Coffee Shop: Humphrey’s Coffee in Haworth
Working from home can sometimes be tedious, so I traveled to Humphrey’s Coffee in Haworth so I could work from a coffee shop instead.
This charming coffee shop is owned and operated by Emma Karach, a lifelong Bergen County resident who opened her doors in October 2021.
The road to opening her own cafe started with a stint at culinary school, changing majors to hospitality, and working part-time as a barista at Whole Foods where she realized she was really good at making coffee. After college, she got a job at a coffee distribution company until the pandemic hit in 2020.
Changing gears, her family encouraged her to start her own business. She knew she wanted to open a bakery with coffee and when the space in downtown Haworth opened up she knew it was meant to be.
She named her cafe Humphrey’s Coffee after her “mischievous” childhood Beagle. He is the inspiration for their logo which you can find everywhere inside the shop as well as their coffee cups.
Their coffee is locally roasted by Parlor Coffee which is based out of Brooklyn. Emma’s background in coffee distribution allowed her to find the perfect match for her cafe.
Variety is not an issue at Humphrey’s Coffee. Their menu has everything from classic coffee drinks like cappuccinos, cortados, and lattes. Their lattes are quite popular like Nutella, white chocolate mocha, and honey lavender. If their menu doesn’t have what you’re looking for customers have the ability to customize their drinks with a wide variety of different flavored syrups and milk.
When I asked what their most popular drink was they suggested their Brown Sugar Latte with oat milk, so I ordered that.
If coffee isn’t for you they also have tea like Matcha and chai. You can order one of their pretty butterfly drinks if you’re looking for that perfect Instagram photo.

Their menu also offers lemonade, kombucha, milkshakes, hot chocolate, and even a butterbeer!
What sets them apart is their excellent customer service – they are great at remembering their frequent customer’s orders. Inside you can also find a dog drive for local animal rescues.
And then there is the food! Emma and her mom, Jill, make most of Humphrey’s Coffee’s baked goods in-house like their popular cookies and brownies. In addition to items baked in store they offer fresh baked bread, croissants, and much more from Balthazar Bakery in Englewood, NJ.
One of the more unique items on their menu is their Nutella bread pudding which they make from Balthazar’s croissants.
Be sure to visit often – they have great seasonal drinks like this Iced White Chocolate Raspberry latte (for Valentine’s Day).
