Dining Al Fresco: Under the Moon Cafe in Bordentown

With locations in Bordentown and Lambertville, Under the Moon Cafe offers home-cooked style meals and desserts that have been passed down from generations. Started by mother and son team Estela Buontempo Orosco and Santiago Orosco in 2006, the inspiration of their restaurant was to “bring the closeness you feel when gathered around the table with friends and family and blend it with a truly unique dining experience”.

I ventured to the restaurant with a friend on a beautiful weekday afternoon for outdoor dining on Farnsworth Ave in Bordentown, NJ. We got there right before the lunch rush and took in the eclectic tableware, glassware, and overall design of the restaurant.

Items on their menu include salads, sandwiches, burgers, and a wide variety of tapas. Featured options that stood out included their Risotto of the Day, Braised Short Rib, artichoke rice balls, and grilled chimichurri steak. And they start you off with incredible bread!

We decided to start our meal with their homemade veggie empanadas which were crispy on the outside with just the right amount of spice on the inside.

As someone with high standards for empanadas, I was very impressed!

For my entree, I ordered their Grilled Bourbon Peach Salad (grilled bourbon peaches, farro, blueberries, red onion, arugula with a maple bourbon rosemary dressing.

It was a very filling salad with a unique dressing. I added grilled chicken to it for the extra protein. The presentation and the meal itself was incredible.

My dining partner ordered their shrimp and crab cake sandwich which came with the most delicious truffle fries.

The restaurant is also BYOB and dog-friendly (outdoors) making it a perfect spot for dining all day into the night.
