Berlin Brewing Co: Brewery Review

Berlin Brewing Co - Exterior

I visited Berlin Brewing Co this weekend for the first time. As of this post this brewery has only been open a couple of months so it’s still fairly new.

Berlin Brewing Co is located on White Horse Pike in Berlin, NJ which is located in Camden County. If you go to this brewery I highly recommend checking out some other breweries in the area including Flying Fish Brewing Co (10 Min away) and Tomfoolery Brewing and Three 3’s Brewing Co which are 15 minutes away in Hammonton. If you do go to multiple breweries, have a DD!

First impressions of the brewery is that it’s a decent size. The tap room has a decent amount of seating, and they have a really nice bar.

They have a baseball theme throughout the brewery and I never found out why. I don’t think there really is an explanation, other than the fact that they are baseball enthusiasts and they decided to go with this as their theme. They have lots of baseball art work, memorabilia, and props all through out their space.

Since you need to take tours of the brewery before you drink (it’s the law), I was happy to see that they have a self guided tour. So we got to look at the space where they brew their beer, learn some history about the brewery, and learn how they make their beer.

After we took our self-guided lesson, we got a ticket (another baseball reference) and got to try out what they had on tap! Note: You can only try their beer if you take the tour and have a ticket as proof.

When we went they had 6 beers on tap as well as an additional non-alcoholic root beer. You can try 4 beers for $6 or try all 6 for $10. I decided to try everything they had.

Berlin Brewing Co - Beer Line Up

Beers I tried when I was there:
– Rye Saison
– Humble Bitch
– Long-a-Coming IPA
– Cullin’s Mythical Black Irish Stout
– Insolent IPA
– Holly Jolly Winter Warmer (Seasonal)

My favorite of the beers that I tried were the Rye Saison and the Holly Jolly Winter Warmer. The Rye Saison had more of a Belgian style taste, which I prefer. The Holly Jolly Winter Warm has a mix of malts, cinnamon, fresh ginger and wildflower honey. It would have been a perfect beer to have at Christmas dinner.

I’m not a huge IPA fan, but the Insolent IPA was one of the best IPAs I’ve had. I preferred it over their other IPA (Long-a-Coming). The Humble Bitch was too bitter for my taste, but if you prefer a bitter beer that may be your favorite of the line up. Cullin’s Mythical Black Irish Stout is an oatmeal based stout, which I prefer for a stout, so I would rank that in my top 3 of the ones I tried that day. All and all, their current line up had something for everyone.

I also really enjoyed the Route 30 Root Beer was very tasty. It’s also perfect to have on tap if you take anyone who is under 21 with you.

I really enjoyed their flight holder and the fact that they encourage you to sign it! I decided to put my own spin on it. Let me know if you see it when you go to visit!

Berlin Brewing Co is another great NJ brewery to add to the local craft beer scene. I look forward to seeing them grow, and hope to visit again soon! For more information on NJ breweries and brew pubs, click HERE for the NJIB Craft Beer Corner.

About Berlin Brewing Co:

Berlin Brewing Co Logo

(From their Website) Way back in good ‘ol 2008, Tony took some ingenuity and his love of fine beer to his own stove top.  What happened was nothing short of miraculous.  Delicious, hand-crafted beer sprung from his imagination into reality.  A passion for knowledge has lead him to research everything he has been able to get his hands on from various techniques to exotic ingredients.  Over the years, he has grown into the seasoned brewer he is today.  However, one evening, his dream of bringing his succulent concoctions to market turned into a reality when he suggested to his friends Rich and Joe that he wanted to open a brewery.  The seed that would blossom into the Berlin Brewing Company was planted and the three friends leapt into action.  Their common interests in baseball and hand crafted beers have and will continue to influence the operations in the brewery and in the Pastime Tap Room.  With the help of their amazing families and a successful KickStarter campaign, the Berlin Brewing Company has gone from dream to reality.
