Press Release:
This documentary covers a year in the lives of people that represent the best of the Jersey Shore. Superstorm Sandy tore through the shores of New Jersey on October 29th and left behind several iconic images as a reminder of the havoc it wreaked. Those images include the fallen Star Jet roller coaster in Seaside Heights, a Union Beach home torn in half, boats dumped in a pile in Long Beach Island, and a Mantoloking house washed into the Barnegat Bay.
The storm, nicknamed Sandy, formed on October 22nd, 2012 in the southern Caribbean Sea. It started on a wake of destruction through the islands of Jamaica, Haiti and Cuba before turning its rage on to the coasts of Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. Within days, Sandy had morphed into a Superstorm, carrying wind spans of over 1,000 miles and a powerful surge aided by the force of a full moon. One by one, each of the symbols of the storm’s destruction were removed, which marked great strides in the recovery effort. Meanwhile, the people living and working at the shore faced increasing barriers to rebuild and regain what they had lost.
This film brings to light a year in the lives of those people as they do battle with insurance companies, mortgagors, and governmental agencies to rebuild their communities, culture, and economics. They learn that picking up the pieces after the storm is even more difficult than surviving it.
