A Winter’s Afternoon in Clinton, NJ!
Oh Clinton, New Jersey. Clinton has a special place in my heart because it’s the town I got married in! It’s also the town in New Jersey I associate as the closest match to our own Stars Hollow (see: Gilmore Girls).
Located in Hunterdon County, Clinton is a cute town that you will definitely find charming. From their downtown area, to their Historic Red Mill, and plenty of restaurants…this is a great place for an afternoon trip.
On my most recent trip to Clinton, I decided to go on a warmer day in Winter. My first stop? Chef and the Builder’s family Diner.
Chef and The Builder’s Family Diner offers your favorite diner classics, including a few spins on them like their Carbolicious French Toast, hearty omelettes, homemade soups, Brooklyn heroes, and burgers served on specialty brioche Red Mill buns. All the food is homemade and fresh, including the fresh cannoli cream that comes on their OMG French Toast, which I had to get due to my love of all things cannoli.

After brunch, we needed to burn off some calories so we took a walk around town. Of course we (and a lot of other people there) had to take pictures of the famous Red Mill. The Red Mill dates back to 1810 (!) and includes a historic museum and fun events throughout the year including ghost tours.
Around the corner from the Red Mill is the Hunterdon Art Museum. This non-profit art museum features art exhibits, classes, and even yoga! It’s a beautiful museum that I recommend checking out.
The downtown area has a lot of great independently owned shops with everything from antique shops, gift shops, restaurants & more!
They are also home to one of the best ice cream places in Hunterdon County, JJ Scoops, which is open year round. Located on Main St, this family owned ice cream parlor has been serving Clinton for 25 years. They even make their own dog ice cream!
And they have one of the best independent book shops in New Jersey. The Clinton Book Shop is ridiculously adorable. They have book signings, a book club, and new and used books for sale. (And no phones allowed)
If you like wine, the downtown area also has a Balic Winery location (with free wine tasting!!). They also have wine for purchase, gift items, and specialty foods.
Before we left town and I knew I needed to make two stops:
The first? Caffeine!! I got matcha tea to go at Citispot Tea and Coffee, Clinton’s coffee and tea go-to location featuring lots of amazing options for drinks and pastries.
And last but not least, Clinton House and Bakery for baked goods to go. This historic restaurant has been around since 1743!
Bottom line…Clinton, NJ is a great place to visit year round. You can easily spend an afternoon, evening, or a full day trip there!
