Wet Ticket Brewing Coming Soon to Rahway!

If you haven’t been to Rahway in a while, you should know that their current slogan “Rahway is Happening” is in place for a reason. Convenient by public transportation, the city is becoming an area for arts and culture, hip restaurants, bars, and coming soon…Wet Ticket Brewing Co!

Wet Ticket Brewing

I got a chance to hang out with the people who will be bringing Wet Ticket Brewing Co to the community and learn what people can look forward to when they open. They are expected to open this Summer 2016.

Tim Pewitt and Al Povalski are both very passionate about beer and the beer making process. Tim, who has been a home brewer for years, looks forward to inviting his neighbors over to try his new brews, so he and his wife Selina felt that opening a craft brewery would be a great next step to continue that passion. A mutual friend introduced them to Al, who is an investment banker specializing in startups, whose advice and guidance helped them throughout the process of get the brewery started. The rest, as they say, is history.

So, why is the brewery called “Wet Ticket”? The term refers to the individuals who ran for office with the intent to repeal prohibition in the 1930s. You were either on the “wet ticket” or the “dry ticket”. In 1933 the people spoke, and the “Wet” candidates went on to repeal Prohibition. In keeping with the the name of the brewery, the “for the people attitude” will be carried through in everything Wet Ticket Brewing does. According to Tim, “Their mission will not only be to create great beers, but to make the brewery itself a destination for all those seeking to celebrate, learn about, and become a part of the craft beer movement.”

Beers you can expect at Wet Ticket Brewing Co are hop forward American ales and Belgians. What I appreciated from being a craft brewery patron, is that a lot of what they’ll do will be based on the feedback they receive in the tasting room, the season and what hops are available. As a customer and consumer, this is very important that the brewers are responding to what their clientele is liking. Additionally, since not everyone appreciates every style for beer (for example, I tend not to like IPAs or very dark stouts) they will have as many beers on tap as the system and demand can support.

Some contenders to be in their opening lineup include: a Double East Coast IPA loaded with both American and Australian hops, a Hoppy Saison, a West Coast Red, a Watermelon wheat, an American Pale, a British ESB, a Coconut Porter, a Kolsch , a Belgian Wit, a session IPA and a Chocolate Stout.

When I was there I was lucky enough to try a Watermelon Wheat beer that Tim has been working on. As a fan of fruitier beers, I spelt the watermelon right away, and the beer itself was very smooth. If this is an example of what is to come, than I for one am very excited.

Wet Ticket Brewing.

According to Tim, when Wet Ticket Brewing Co opens expect to find “great beer, music, laughter shared with family and friends. What’s better than that? I 100% agree and can’t wait to see this new brewery incorporated into the Rahway community. Conveniently located on Main Street, 2 blocks from the train station, this place will definitely be hopping (pun intended)
