The New Jersey Isn’t Boring Doughnut – On Sale until July 13

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been over a week since the New Jersey Isn’t Boring Doughnut debuted! Together with the fine folks of Purple Glaze and Johnny’s Pork Roll Food Truck, we made something awesome happen…a pork roll doughnut! (PS for more snapchat photos, follow me on NJISNTBORING)

People have been very excited the doughnut, which excites me since the sales of the doughy masterpiece go to support two fantastic animal charities.

On Monday, June 13th, I traveled to Purple Glaze in Asbury Park to see the first doughnut being purchased. I literally got there just in time to see it happen. I was only there for a little bit in the morning, but I got to see a lot of pork roll doughnuts being bought and eaten, which was awesome.

Purple Glaze Donuts (516 Summerfield Ave, Asbury Park, NJ) has announced they will debut a “New Jersey Isn’t Boring” donut on Monday, June 13^th, 2016 starting at 9am. The donut will be on sale for one month and will raise money for two animal charities, “Tails of Hope” based in Monmouth County, and “Sammy’s Hope” located in Sayreville, NJ.

Cyd Katz, founder of New Jersey Isn’t Boring, approached the owners of Purple Glaze Donuts about the concept of a “New Jersey Isn’t Boring” donut which would raise money for animal charities. Katz says, “We sat down together to brainstorm a donut concept that would be representative of New Jersey.  The first thing that came to mind…pork-roll. Purple Glaze is always coming up with creative donuts, so I knew they would create something amazing”.

Jacalyn Sharpe, owner of Purple Glaze Donuts, reached out to Johnny Pork Roll of Johnny’s Pork-Roll and Coffee Truck and got brainstorming on a sweet and savory pork-roll donut.

Together they concocted the “New Jersey Isn’t Boring” donut – A Vanilla donut lightly glazed, covered in fried pork roll seasoned with garam marsala, cardamom & agave; filled with chopped apple compote & topped with sharp cheddar cheese. It’s no secret that New Jerseyans love their pork-roll, and pork-roll enthusiasts will go crazy for this donut.
