Wellness Wednesday: Fitness Inc in Garwood, NJ – Part 1

Katie and Shane Condron, a married couple with several certificates, training and degrees between them started Fitness Inc in 2012. The couple met at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, both as Exercise Science majors. They decided to pursue personal training certifications from A.C.E (the American Council on Exercise) while still pursuing their Exercise Science degrees.

After working in large gyms and small personal training studios Kate and Shane always noticed one thing was missing in all the jobs they worked, and that was consistency. Consistency in training, consistency in the education of the trainers, and consistency in the experience provided by the trainers. They wanted to create a personal training studio where clients can come in and regardless of the trainer they were working with, be delivered the same amazing training experience time after time.

They did this not by trying to create their own new style of working out but rather taking multiple pieces of research and proven training protocols and systemizing them into the Fitness Inc training system. By doing this all of our trainers have a system they can follow and work within to deliver proven results, session after session.

This is really what sets Fitness Inc apart from other personal training studios and large gyms in the state. They are one team, working within the same system, to deliver their clients the results they want!

An important goal for Shane and Katie when they started Fitness Inc was to create a community. Shane’s theory is “Everyone has 3 places in their life. They have their home where they live, their jobs where they work, and they have their ‘third place’ which is the community they are a member of when they aren’t at home or at work. We want Fitness Inc to be that third place for anyone who walks through our front door. We do this by always supporting our members with positive proactive coaching, creating a positive judgement free environment where they can let their personalities shine, and by delivering the results they seek from training with Fitness Inc. We take the quality of the training at Fitness Inc very serious but we always keep the atmosphere light hearted and fun!”

Things you can expect from Fitness Inc are small group training, semi-private training (most popular option), 1 on 1 training, and nutrition coaching.

All of their training packages include unlimited access to small group training, guaranteeing you will always have a trainer in front of you coaching you to success. Semi-private and private sessions are made by appointment and can be scheduled at your convenience, for both personal training and nutritional coaching.

I started my training there by doing a 1 hour screening with Shane. This 1 hour screening took me through the functional movement screen (functionalmovement.com) which they use to evaluate all new clients. The screening tells the trainers if anyone has any mobility or stability issues and will determine exactly where you should start. It also helps them to minimize injuries (like my bad knee) and start clients at the exact point they need to start getting results right away.

I thought this would be an easy task, but I swear I sweat more during this screening than an actual work out. I also learned I need to work on a lot of things, including working on my strength, mobility, and flexability.

I’m currently doing semi private training with Neal Snyder, Fitness Inc’s Program Director. Not only is Neal fun to work with, he has taken by damaged right knee into account and has worked around it. After a 1 one hour session with Neal I definitely feel stronger, and I look forward to see if my screening results change after working with him for 6 weeks.
