The Tuckahoe Diner: Review
Knowing that the Tuckahoe Diner is only open for breakfast and lunch (a mistake I’ve made in the past), I stopped there on my way to Cape May for brunch!
I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Tuckahoe Diner is an old school, classic, tiny diner! It was adorable. In fact the diner is an original 1946 Streamline Diner, moved to Tuckahoe circa 1954 from North Jersey.
The interior of the diner is also very cute and cozy with lots of postcards, pictures, pop culture memrobilia, and kids artworks plastered throughout for decor. It also employs a 50s theme with records hanging from the ceiling, a mini jukebox, and the waitresses in sock hop outfits.
Because we arrived at the end of the lunch rush, we actually grabbed 2 seats at the counter. There’s very limited seating at the diner, so if you’re more than 4 people you won’t be able to sit together unless you sit outside (during appropriate weather).
The diner features your favorite diner foods with a cutesie names. For example if you order the #8 omelette you are in fact ordering the “Betty Boop”, a veggie omelette with American cheese. If you order the #3 burger you are ordering the “Blues Brothers”, a half pound burger with blue cheese and bacon. They also feature a lot Greek specialties like stuffed grape leaves, a feta appetizer, and gyros.
I ordered a chicken gyro which was real chicken gyro, not grilled chicken. It also came with a side order of real, hand cut fries which were amazing. One of my favorite complete diner meals.
The diner also makes awesome home fries, and my husband enjoyed that with eggs and crispy bacon.
For dessert the diner offers up 50s style shakes, malts, and soda floats. So cute. Overall an enjoyable diner experience that you do not want to pass up.
