The Metro Diner in East Brunswick: Review

Located off of Route 18 in East Brunswick, is a new diner called the Metro Diner. While it was being built I didn’t know that this diner happened to be a diner chain, which originally started in Jacksonville, FL. I visited the diner during their opening week.

While the diner definitely feels like a chain restaurant on the inside, it does have a diner counter and some kitschy items on the walls.

Here are some interesting items you can find on their menu:
– Their popular chicken and waffles topped with strawberry butter
– The Metro Pancake called the “12 inch Challenge”
– Breakfast Pie
– Charleston Shrimp and Grits
– The Holy Davoli Burger served between two grilled cheese sandwiches
– a Double Decker BLT
– and cheesy tots (tots filled with cheese)

On their website you can find weekly specials in advance.

If you’re health conscience, this may not be the place for you. The diner has the calories listed next to every item which is nice…but also discouraging depending on what you want to get. This is how I ended up getting the chicken salad sandwich, the item that was one of the healthier options on the menu.

Luckily I enjoy chicken salad, and the Metro Diner happens to be very good! For my side I chose mashed potatoes (minus the gravy) which was also delicious.

On the flip side, my husband got the Pulled Pork Mac Stack which is one of their most popualr items. It’s basically what it sounds like, pulled pork and mac and cheese but it’s stacked on top of a cheddar cornbread waffle.

People literally stopped by our table to tell us how good it looked.

At the end of the day, the Metro Diner is definitely not a “New Jersey” diner, but it definitely has some fun items to check out.
