In 1967, Bob Dylan and The Band recorded over 100 songs in the basement of Big Pink, a house near Woodstock, NY. After circulating on bootleg albums for nearly eight years, 16 songs were released on an album called The Basement Tapes, including such classic as I Shall Be Released, Tears of Rage, and Quinn The Eskimo. But it was widely believed that dozens more remained hidden away. The mystery and intrigue surrounding these “lost” recordings reached mythological status, spawning at least two books and countless articles speculating about their existence and their fate. Now, 48 years later, the Complete Basement Tapes have finally been found, remastered, and released, revealing the musical journey taken by these six musicians that led to a new sound and direction for Dylan, and the emergence of The Band.
The THE BAND Band pays tribute to this historical treasure trove with a special show dedicated to the songs that emerged from that legendary basement all those years ago.
About The THE BAND Band:
This is not your ordinary tribute band. The THE BAND Band brings the music of The Band alive with authentic, true-to-form renditions of their extraordinary repertoire. The group was conceived in the winter of 2007, the brainchild of lifelong friends and Band fans Jack Kraft and Gary Solomon. Sharing a love for the music of The Band, they formed this tribute band for the sheer enjoyment of playing their songs. They enlisted the talents of Vinny Nicosia, Mike Corbin, and Josh Radin, and after months of careful listening and practicing, they emerged with a rich and impassioned set of Band songs. After making its debut performance the following summer, The THE BAND Band has since performed at theaters, clubs, and festivals throughout the Northeast, from Maine to Maryland, sharing the stage with such notable artists as Richie Havens, New Riders Of The Purple Sage, Aztec Two Step, and Marshall Crenshaw.
