New NJ Winery Alert: Saddlehill Cellars Opens Today in Voorhees
Wine lovers rejoice! Saddlehill Cellars is the newest winery to join the Garden State. Their grand opening is Wednesday, April 10th, 2024.
Nestled in the heart of suburban New Jersey, Saddlehill Winery and Vineyard sits as an oasis spanning over 70 acres of enchanting vineyards and meticulously preserved farmland. This serene landscape is steeped in history, with roots tracing back to none other than George Washington himself.
The Green family is honored to be the current steward of this land and welcome in a new chapter at Saddlehill Cellars. “We love this community and we are thrilled to be a part of it,” says Bill Green.
Planted in 2021, Saddlehill Cellar’s vineyards are primed to produce premium quality grapes. The vineyard’s well-drained soil receives adequate sun, heat, and water during the growing season, and enough cold during the dormancy phase to produce high-quality wines. Winemaker Peter Szerdahelyi brings his wealth of experience to create Saddlehill’s wonderful portfolio of wines for visitors to enjoy.

Visitors can enjoy a relaxing wine pairing with food from the farmhouse kitchen in one of the indoor or outdoor seating areas. The farm-to-table wine-pairing bistro in the tasting room will offer lunch and dinner, featuring a delectable menu primarily crafted from farm-produced ingredients. Alongside its estate-crafted wines available in the retail shop and through the wine club, the bistro will offer a selection of foods made from ingredients grown on the farm, including jams, sauces, spreads, and honey from the fruit orchard and vegetable fields.
Beyond the glass, visitors can get a more in-depth look at Saddlehill with winery tours. Led by knowledgeable guides, visitors will get to see the magic behind the winemaking process, from vine to bottle. They can stroll through picturesque vineyards, witness the craftsmanship in state-of-the-art facilities, and learn about the art of blending and aging.
The history of Saddlehill dates back to the Revolutionary War era when George Washington bestowed a 69.8-acre parcel of land in Voorhees to his loyal personal guard, Lt. John Stafford. Over time, the farm conditions faded until Amy and Bill Green purchased the property in 2021, breathing new life into the cherished land.
Embracing the spirit of giving, the Saddlehill Foundation fosters partnerships with non-profit organizations through its Sprouting Connections Partnership, bringing joy to children and young adults with special needs.
