River Star Diner in Hackettstown: Review
Hackettstown is a great town in Warren County, home to a great diner, the River Star Diner. I had a chance to visit the first weekend in June of 2016.
This diner, which is about 6 minutes away from downtown Hackettstown, is a lot bigger than it appears. When you walk in, you see this great diner counter and you don’t think the diner really goes beyond your view from there. However, there is actually a lot of seating, which we were relieved to find out because the parking lot was PACKED and we were hungry.
What we did not know from walking in, was that the diner has a river running behind it. We got to sit in a very cute booth looking over the river while we ate. That is definitely a first in my diner experience!
Their menu has EVERYTHING, making it very hard to make a decision. They have a lot of salads, sandwiches, Italian specialties, steaks, seafood and more! Plus their prices are super reasonable. Unique to this diner is a hot dog section called “Hot Dog Heaven” and a list of Pita Pizzas called “Frank’s Spizzas on a Pita” featuring 10 fun pita pizza varieties.
For some of their items, like wraps and burgers, they offer a promo deal to add on a milk shake for $2.29 (normally $4+). I convinced my husband to get a milkshake with his burger, the “Breakfast Burger”.
I decided to order the Chicken Soulvaki off of “Frank’s Big Fat Mediterranean Section”, which featured many authentic Greek items like Moussake, Spanakopita, Gyro, Shish Kebabs and more. My platter was the best deal in town! For $10.99 I got soup, grilled chicken, a Greek Salad, pita, AND fries. I took most of it home.
Overall, great food at a great location for a great price! I highly recommend it!
