Spreading awareness one kernel at at time is the motto for Popcorn for the People, a non-profit gourmet popcorn business located in Middlesex County.
The current unemployment rate is 80-90% in the autistic population, a fact that affected Barbie and Steven Bier’s son Sam. Sam was looking for a fulfilling job opportunity, so they started Popcorn for the People to combine America’s favorite snack food with Sam’s passion and unique world view. They employ adults and teens who are on the spectrum or have developmental disabilities can learn a wide range of skill sets to better prosper in life.
When your order arrives you can put a name to the person who made and prepped your popcorn. Every tin you purchase provides at least an hour of meaningful employment for someone with developmental disabilities.
Additionally 100% of the profits from Popcorn for the People goes to Let’s Work for Good, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit social enterprise with a mission to provide meaningful and lasting employment for adults with autism and developmental disabilities.
Their popcorn flavors range from sweet to savory with options like white cheddar, buffalo wing, cookies and cream, salt and vinegar, apple caramel, and dark chocolate espresso.
