Pizza and Penguins Make the Perfect Evening!
Who says Summer is the only time to head to the boardwalk? This month I enjoyed the perfect evening at Jenkinson’s Aquarium with two of my favorite things: pizza and penguins.
If you haven’t checked out Jenkinson’s Aquarium before, the aquarium is a privately owned facility located on the boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. Since 1991, the aquarium has been dedicated to educating the public on all aspects of marine life and conservation. Each exhibit is designed to promote awareness of the animals, their habitats and conservation. They also feature innovative educational and outreach programs…like Pizza and Penguins!
This unique event, which was hosted after hours at the aquarium, featured delicious pizza…
and a visit with Perky the Penguin who took pictures with families while we ate.
After we finished eating, Perky left and we got to meet three real West African penguins: Lilo, Dassen, and Checkers. These three ladies waddled around right in front of us while the staff at Jenkinson’s taught us facts about the penguins, penguins in general, and answered questions from the audience.
Afterwards we went to the penguin’s habitat and got to see them eat and swim.
It was great to be that close to the habitat!
It was a very intimate event and it’s something I’ll never forget. I learned some new facts about penguins, found out a share a birthday with Zuri the penguin, and enjoyed the overall experience.
The aquarium also let you “adopt” their penguins, as well as other animals. For more information, click here.
Jenkinson’s Aquarium is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). AZA is America’s leading accrediting organization for zoos and aquariums, and accredits only those institutions that have achieved rigorous, professional standards for animal welfare and management, veterinary care, wildlife conservation and research, education, safety, staffing, and more.
The aquarium is open all year closing only on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
