Reeves-Reed Arboretum presents “OFF THE PLATE…” an exhibition of fine art photography by Jim Smith

Reeves-Reed Arboretum, in collaboration with the Grand Summit Hotel, presents Off the Plate… and onto the walls of the Hat Tavern – an exhibition of original fine art photography by noted artist Jim Smith. Although the art has been installed and is currently on display, the show officially opens to the public with an artist’s reception, Thursday evening, August 6, from 6 to 8 pm.
Off the Plate… represents a delicious collection of the haunting beauty of everyday foods, photographed in mouth watering style by the artist. Smith, known for his “painterly” approach to photography, provides the viewer with an ‘Old Masters’ museum-like technique to his extraordinary still lifes of food, flowers, and various everyday props that serve as objet d’art, creating a compelling visual narrative.
Jim Smith has worked as a freelance photographer in publishing and advertising. He has focused his career on creating books for the nation’s best publishers. His series about cooking for John Wiley & Sons, Inc. has sold over one and a half million copies and features over one thousand of Jim’s images on food and cooking. His photographs have appeared in the most prominent publications and magazines, and he has received special recognition for his images showcasing people, museums, travel, and food.
Off the Plate…will remain on view at the Hat Tavern through October. The artist will donate 30% of all art sales to the Arboretum.
