The Office Tavern Grill: Comfort Food at its Finest
I recently visited the Office Tavern Grill located in Downtown Summit (additional location in Morristown) for a date night with my husband. I had never been there before and had heard good things about it.
Conveniently located in downtown Summit, you can find the Office Tavern Grill right across from the train station. This is perfect for commuters who want to grab food (or more importantly a drink) when they arrive in Summit after a long day at work.
Keeping with the “we’re right across from the train station” theme, the Office Tavern Grill reminds you of being in an upscale train station. There are train paintings and small murals, and the bar area reminds you of a ticketing station with the schedules across the board.
Speaking of the bar, the restaurant features a rotating 40 beers on tap as well as beers in bottles, wine, specialty cocktails and even Prosecco on tap!

It was difficulty deciding what to eat since they have a menu with basically everything I could ever want. Their menu features many appetizers, a raw bar, salads, flat breads (baked in a stone fired oven at 800°), burgers, sandwiches, and entrees which include Fish and Chips, Stout Braised Short Ribs, Chicken and Waffles, and a 14 Oz. Aged NY Strip.
In addition to their menu they also have a special list called the “Road Trip USA” featuring food inspired by other states. This month the state was Washington and the menu featured Oyster Tacos, a Smoked Salmon BLT, and Wild Berry Pie for dessert (among other entrees). It also featured beer from the state, so my husband decided to get a Redhook ESB, Original Ale from Red Hook Ale Brewery which hails from Seattle. I got Prosecco on tap, because I’m fancy (not really though).

As I mentioned before, the Office Tavern Grill features 40 beers on tap including New Jersey beers. In addition to having the beers on draught, they also offer flights so you can taste 4 different beers. Flights include the “Keeping it Jersey”, which featured 4 popular NJ beers; “Hop Master”, 4 different IPAs; and “All Over the Map”, beers brewed in the USA. The beer looks good in their glasses!
On to the food…
Because we couldn’t decide on what appetizer to get…we got the “Couldn’t Decide” Appetizer platter. Thank goodness they have something for patrons who are as undecided as me. The sampler came with wings your style (we chose spicy buffalo), crispy herb breaded mozzarella, truffled tots with aioli, and spinach fondue which came with tortilla chips. It was more than enough food for two people, and we probably didn’t need to order anything else. Spoiler Alert: We did anyway!
For my entree, I ordered one of the flat breads, which was enough food for 3 people. My flat bread of choice was the “Crab and Avocado” made with lump crab, mozzarella, avocado, tomato and old bay. I am eating my leftovers as I type.
Although I was very pleased with my meal, my husband got something I was envious of: The Crusty Garlic Bread Burger. 100% ground chuck, fresh mozzarella, san marzano tomato sauce served on herbed garlic bread. Yeah. I had a bite and it was amazing. Definitely the kind of meal you want to eat on your cheat day.
Despite being so full it hurt, we had been eyeing dessert since before we got there. I asked our waiter (Brian…hi Brian!) what to get and he told me that the Baked Cookie Trio was one of their most popular desserts. Since my husband is not a “dessert guy” this was the easiest decision to make since who doesn’t like chocolate chip cookies?
My goodness were these amazing. Served hot with your choice of vanilla or chocolate (or both) ice cream, this dessert is perfect for sharing. We could have used a third or fourth person to finish it though. Oh well.
Overall, a great time at the Office Tavern Grill. Great food, drinks, dessert and company. I highly recommend it and I definitely intend to return!
