NJ Bucket List Item Achieved: Lakota Wolf Preserve

As long as I’ve been aware of it, I have wanted to visit the Lakota Wolf Preserve. Located in Columbia, NJ this wildlife preservation is home to four different species of wolves, foxes, and bobcats. They are the largest preserve in the Northeastern United States.

The mission of Lakota Wolf Preserve is to provide a handful of wolves born in captivity a good place to live out their lives. provide the public a place to see and learn about wolves. It has been proven that the animals who live is captivity like a preserve live longer lives than they would in the wild.

Wolf Watch tours are led by owner Jim Stein and Becky Mace, who have raised and care for all the animals at the preserve since 1998. During their presentations you will learn about the social structure of wolf packs, their eating habits, their interaction with man, and many other interesting facts.

If you’re afraid of the “big, bad wolf”, don’t be! There are no recorded incidents of wolves attacking people in the United States. Wolves are essentially just big dogs who love to play and you’ll see that first hand during your visit.
