Miss America Diner in Jersey City: Review

With many diners to explore all around New Jersey, I decided to take a trip North to a diner I had heard so many great things about, The Miss America Diner. Located in Jersey City, this little diner definitely did not disappoint.

If you follow this blog and/or my diner adventures, you know I have a soft spot for a train car diner (see Tony’s Freehold Grill and the Roadside Diner). There’s something about a diner like this that brings out nostalgia for the original diners of yesteryear.

Moving inside, the diner has a great diner counter:

As well as some funky retro seating:

Add to that the friendly service and great food, you have an overall winning diner experience!

The service at the diner is fantastic right when you walk in the door. The host was smiling and welcoming, and our waitress was very friendly. The majority of the patrons at the diner (on a Wednesday night) were regulars and were very chummy with the staff. That is ALWAYS a good sign when you’re at a diner.

On to the food…

The diner had lots of great things to choose from, as well as some creative items as well. You can get burgers named after area like the “Jersey City Burger” (burger with pork roll/Taylor ham and cheese) or the “Liberty Burger” (sauteed onions, mushrooms, Swiss and cheddar cheese on a hard roll) to name a few. You could also spend ALL your calories for the week on the “Yank Burger” which is a hamburger served between grilled cheese sandwiches…

The diner has your classic diner fare: sandwiches, big portioned entrees, appetizers, soup, etc etc.  I was blown away by their affordable epic breakfast options including the “Miss America Breakfast” (two eggs, two bacon strips, two pork sausages, two ham strips, hash browns, and 2 pancakes) for less than 10 dollars. You can also the “Super Breakfast” which is two eggs, two french toast triangles, SIX silver dollar pancakes, two bacon strips and 2 pork sausage), also under 10 dollars. OR you can get the “two x two x two” which my husband got:

I was digging all the Greek options on the menu, so I went with a chicken kabob sandwich and deluxed it to get fries and a Greek salad. I also asked if how much it would be to upgrade to “Greek Fries” since I saw that listed in their appetizers, and they didn’t charge me any extra which was very nice. If you haven’t had Greek fries at a diner or Greek restaurant…I highly recommend them.

When the waitress dropped off my meal she didn’t think I would finish my meal, but I proved her wrong. I can’t tell if she was impressed or shocked. It was A LOT of food and I was very hungry.

I am definitely putting this diner on the list of one of my favorites. Great food, great service, and great atmosphere. It’s no wonder they’ve been open for over $75 years!
