Hot Doggity Dog: Review of Jersey Johnny’s Grill
I’m always on the hunt for the “best” of everything in New Jersey, so when I heard Jersey Johnny’s Grill was boasting they had the best hot dogs in the state, I knew I had to make a trip to visit them.
Owner John DiGangi grew up in Paterson, NJ aka the Texas Weiner Capital. He started Jersey Johnny’s Grill 8 years ago and has been in the food industry for 34 years. In addition to having locations in Pequannock, Woodland Park, and Denville, you can also catch the Jersey Johnny’s Grill food truck at various festivals and events in NJ and PA.
First thing you need to do at Jersey Johnny’s Grill? Order a hot dog of course! I started with a plain hot dog just to taste what it was like without any toppings. Their hot dogs are deep fried and you can get them in regular or large. Safe to say it was definitely one of the best hot dogs I’ve ever had…
Jersey Johhny’s Grill has a lot of different styles of hot dogs including the Cuban (Ham, Swiss, Pickles & Mustard), the Chicago (Mustard, Onion, Relish, Tomato & Pickle), the Italian (Potatoes, Peppers & Onions served on Pizza Bread), and an item called the “Heart Stopper” (2 Bacon Strips, Cheese, Chili, Onions, Mustard, Jalapeno & Hot Sauce).
Their most popular item is their “All the Way” hot dog made with John’s homemade chili, mustard and onions. I didn’t know if I could eat another hot dog, but I was convinced by everyone in the restaurant including a customer who ordered two “All the Way Hot Dogs”…and then ordered an additional one before he went home. Apparently it’s that good.
WOW. I’m not a huge chili person, but this hot dog as a whole was AMAZING! I can see why it’s so popular!
Not a hot dog fan? Jersey Johnny’s Grill has plenty of other things to order including homemade soup, burgers, salads, wings, hot sandwiches, fries, milkshakes, and more.
We also ordered a Taylor Ham Cheese Burger (which is exactly what it sounds like). Their meat, which they get from a local butcher, is incredible! It’s safe to assume everything on their menu is great.
We also shared Disco Fries. Now, I won’t argue with you over whether it’s Taylor Ham or Pork Roll, but I will argue over the contents of disco fries. Their disco fries are made with MOZZARELLA cheese and their homemade gravy. So goooooood. I was licking the gravy off the plate and I’m not ashamed. You can also get a “Disco Burger” which is mozzarella and gravy on a burger.
The best part of the whole meal? How affordable it is! I was SHOCKED with how low their prices are. It makes it a lot easier to order multiple things from the menu without breaking the bank.
I highly recommend stopping by Jersey Johnny’s Grill, or check our their food truck if you see them around. If you love great food, you won’t be disappointed.
