The Hillsborough Star Diner: Review
On a whim I decided to visit the Hillsborough Star Diner, which is located on Route 206 in Hillsborough, NJ.
The diner, which opened in 2001, has a very cool stone exterior, which continues on the inside of the diner. I was very charmed by the decor of the diner which had an old fashioned look without feeling outdated.
I especially loved that they still had jukeboxes on the tables, somethings I loved when I visited diners as a kid. These are becoming very rare to find!
Their menu has a lot of great options making it hard to make a decision. All of their food is homemade and fresh, so expect a home-cooked meal! They have a lot of breakfast options, a lot of salads and sandwiches, quesadillas and fajitas, specialty burgers, steaks, seafood, and homemade desserts (to name a few).
Because it was a weekday they had some amazing lunch specials! Since the diner was an authentic Greek diner, I decided to get a Greek meal…a chicken gyro! The lunch special, which was under $10, came with fries AND soup. It was a lot of food for a little money…so I was happy.
The Hillsborough Star Diner features freshly made soup that changes daily. Because it was a Thursday, I ordered their split pea soup which was DELICIOUS. Glad that I was there on a Thursday.
My chicken gyro was actual made in the traditional gyro way! Sometimes when you order a chicken gyro it’s literally grilled chicken…so I loved that my meal was made the proper Greek way. The pita was delicious, the tzatziki sauce was fantastic, and their fries were crispy. I was in heaven! It was one of the best diner meals I’ve ever had.
Overall I was charmed by the Hillsborough Star Diner and would definitely recommend if you’re in the area.
