Evan’s Restaurant and Diner in Matawan: Review
Located right off the Garden State Parkway, Evan’s Restaurant is a family owned business that has been serving authentic Greek and diner delights since 2000.
When you walk in you’ll notice their diner counter complete with the cooks in the background making your food for everyone to see.
They also have gyro spinners for their famous gyros, or as Ron Swanson would call them: a “Meat Tornado”
Their menu features all your diner favorites, and a few things you may not find anywhere else. Here are a few things that stood out to me on their menu:
– The Belly Buster Breakfast Sandwich; pork roll, bacon, sausage and ham served with egg on choice of bread.
– Lots of Greek platters including combos with gyros, kebabs, Greek salad, falafel, and spankopita
– Greek appetizers like tiropita, dolmades, and hummus
– Homemade egg and tuna salad
– Baklava
– and Anytime Specials
Because I was there for breakfast, I enjoyed one of their many breakfast special options.
My breakfast sandwich came with choice of meat (turkey bacon), cheese (which I declined), a side of home fries and a choice of coffee, juice, or bottled water (I chose coffee).
My husband got a 3 egg special which came with a coffee AND juice, and since he doesn’t like coffee they gave him a big boy sized orange juice.
His omelette also came with meat (he chose bacon), and a it was a very generous portion!
Evan’s Restaurant is definitely a hidden gem. Be sure to check them out!
