The Colonial Diner in Lyndhurst: Review
Gus’s Colonial Diner in Lyndhurst is now the THIRD Colonial Diner I’ve been to in New Jersey. The craziest thing is that the other two Colonial Diners (in East Brunswick and Woodbury) are not even related. Crazy! Popular name for a diner apparently…
Located in Lyndhurst, The Colonial Diner has been around since 1986. It’s a 1950’s train car style diner (my favorite), which is renovated but maintains it’s retro feel.
They have a very big and very affordable menu. They have so many options on their menu from salads, sandwiches, triple decker club sandwiches, specialty burgers, roasts, steaks, and seafood. Some of the things that stood out to me on their menu was their Tex Mex options like their guacamole, Santa Fe egg rolls, and chili cheese fries…and of course their PEPPER JACK MEATLOAF SANDWICH (Meatloaf, Pepper Jack Cheese, Fried Onions & Brown Gravy on a Hoagie Roll).
Despite their big menu, a ended up getting something off of their “specials” menu, a California Kale Veggie Burger, served with arugula and avocado and a side of sweet potato fries. SO good, and SO big…plus it’s super healthy! I only ended up eating half of it.
The special also came with a soup, and I chose a very delicious chicken noodle. It was great to have on a cold day.
I can see why this diner is constantly recommended to me. Their food and service is impeccable, and I had a great time there. Next time I’m in the area, I will definitely be back!
