The Best Grilled Cheese in Monmouth County
April is National Grilled Cheese Month (Trust me, it’s a thing), and if you’re like me…you love a good grilled cheese! Luckily, there are a bunch of places in New Jersey that focus on making amazing and unique grilled cheese.
So far this month I got a chance to visit two of these places, which both happened to be in Monmouth County.
First stop: Bond Street Bar, Asbury Park
208 Bond St, Asbury Park; 732-774-1575
As mentioned in my recent review of my day trip to Asbury Park, Bond Street Bar is a local bar known for having cheap drinks and grilled cheese. When I went with friends, between the 4 of us we ordered four different grilled cheeses, 2 PBRs and it cost us $20.
At Bond Street Bar they have different options for the grilled cheese itself as well as your choice of bread. I ordered Mushroom, Frizzled Onion, Swiss on Rye, my friend got the same thing on wheat, another friend ordered Artichoke, Sun Dried Tomato, Mozzarella on wheat, and my husband ordered a classic American Cheese on white bread. All options range from $3 to $5. Additionally, they have a Bacon, Apple, Bleu Cheese sandwich among their other options, and offer daily specials (including a Pork Roll Grilled Cheese which they had the day we were there).
Here is all the grilled cheese in all their glory:
Make sure you have cash on you, because this bar does not take credit card. I recommend Bond Street Bar as a place to grab great drinks and eat pub food…but if you’re there you should definitely order a grilled cheese.
Second Stop: Cheese Cave, Red Bank
14 Monmouth Street, Red Bank, 732-842-0796
I was happy to see that the Cheese Cave was embracing National Grilled Cheese Month. This gourmet cheese shop located in Downtown Red Bank, concocts grilled cheeses that will blow your mind.
If you’re a lover of cheese, you should be checking this place out. They have everything you could imagine.
Their sandwiches, called SandwiCHEESES, offer a more fancy grilled cheese using imported cheese and meats served on various types of bread. For example, you could order the “Pig and Fig” which contains Rosemary Ham, Brie, Fig Jam on a Baguette; or the “Goat Goddess” which is goat cheese, cucumber, avocado, and arugula on whole grain.
I decided to order the “Four Cheese Melt” which has four kinds of cheese on sour dough bread. These cheeses were Asiago Fresco, Provolone, Gouda, Cheddar.
Doesn’t that look amazing? I highly recommend it.
The Cheese Cave is a great place to pick up cheese and meat you may not find anywhere else, or just grab a bite to eat. You should definitely check it out.
