Workshops
The Arts Guild will be offering two exciting workshops: Portrait in a Day taught by Westfield, New Jersey artist Gary Godbee on Saturday, November 1, 2014 and The Six- Hour Art Major, a two-day workshop taught by Gene Wisniewski on November 1 and 8, 2014 . Both workshops will be held in our studio classroom space on the corner of Easterbrook and Milton Avenues in Rahway at the Senior Center Annex, 125 West Milton Avenue.
This marks the second time Arts Guild New Jersey is offering the Six-Hour Art Major seminar taught by Gene Wisniewski. The Six-Hour Art Major, with its tag line “Art School, Condensed”, features mini-versions of Art History and Art Appreciation, hands-on drawing exercises, and a general discussion on developing creativity. “By making yourself into an artist, you get a whole different take on art,” Mr. Wisniewski says. “You get to learn what goes into making art, and can develop a better understanding of it.”
Mr. Wisniewski has offered versions of his Six-Hour Art Major seminar at prestigious and diverse venues such as the 92nd Street Y, SUNY Purchase, and social club Soho House New York, as well as privately. The 2-part course is going to be offered on two consecutive Saturdays, November 1st and 8th, 2014 from 11:00 am to 1:00pm (each half) at 125 West Milton Avenue in the Rahway Senior Center ANNEX. The workshop fee is $95 for Arts Guild Members and $105 for non-members.
Portrait in a Day will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. The workshop fee is $85 for Art Guild Members and $95 for non-members. The foundation of a realist portrait is a solid understanding of how to render a like-ness through drawing the way light and shadow defines form. In this one-day drawing workshop, students will work from a live model as we explore the major forms of the head and the individual features of the face. The goal of the workshop is for each student to gain stronger control of form and value as we complete a portrait drawing in one session. We will be creating heightened drawings using hard and soft pencils and white chalk on toned paper. This technique allows the artist to more easily work on both the highlights and the shadow areas of the form in order to create a convinc-ing illusion of 3-dimensional space. There will be a half-hour break for lunch. A materials list will be emailed to you after registering for this workshop.
