Welcome to Cape May Food Tours, where visitors get to enjoy great food, learn interesting history, and see pretty buildings all in one go. These tours let you taste yummy food, hear cool stories about the town’s past, and admire its beautiful buildings. Join the tour to have a fantastic time exploring Cape May, where delicious meals, fun history, and lovely architecture come together for a memorable adventure.

Cape May has two fantastic 3-hour tours to choose from. First, there’s the Historic Downtown Food Tour, where you’ll get to explore the charming Victorian architecture, learn about the local history, and enjoy some amazing food in this beautiful seaside resort. And then, there’s the West Cape May Food Tour – Tastes of the World, which takes you to relaxed eateries, shares entertaining historic tales, and lets you savor sustainable, farm-to-table delights on the West Side of Cape May. Private tours are also available.

The tour was established by Mary Ockrymiek, who launched it in 2012. Mary has a deep passion for guiding people through her hometown of Cape May, indulging in delectable freshly made dishes at nearby eateries, sharing captivating tales from Cape May’s history, and highlighting the unique features of the charming Victorian buildings that grace the city.

She firmly believes in pursuing one’s passions and leveraging them to make a positive impact on others. Through her venture, Cape May Food Tours, she has found a platform to do just that. In 2019, the company forged a meaningful partnership with the Lymphoma Research Foundation, committing to donate a portion of every ticket sale to support their vital work in lymphoma research on an annual basis.

During the earlier part of this season, I had the pleasure of experiencing Cape May Food Tours’ Fall tour, and it was truly a delightful experience. I find that fall is an exceptional time to explore Cape May due to its unique charm during this season.

We explored Cape May with our guide Susi, a trained chef from Bavaria, Germany who has lived in Cape May for over 20 years. Our first stop was at George’s Place, which has two locations in downtown Cape May and is part of the Kara Restaurant Group a collection of upscale casual dining experiences in Cape May.

A great spot to kick start our tour with a delicious brunch – we savored the crab cake eggs benedict pictured here.

Next we visited La Dona, a restaurant specializing in Oaxacan-style Mexican cuisine, owned by Lucy Covino, who initiated the establishment as a means to share her cultural heritage and the authentic Mexican, particularly Oaxacan, culinary traditions she inherited. Her ultimate aspiration is to introduce the light and fresh flavors reminiscent of a beautiful Mexican beach to the shores of Cape May, NJ.

I had the pleasure of enjoying the vegetarian tacos (as seen in the picture above), while the rest of the tour indulged in chicken taquitos. I’m grateful to both the restaurant and Cape May Food Tours for accommodating my dietary preferences.

One of the highlights of the tour was visiting the Cape May Creamery Cheese Shop, a newer establishment at the Washington Mall. Visitors can stop in to sample a variety of specialty cheeses, cured meats, spreads, and more. Alternatively, they can place an order for a custom-made cheese or charcuterie tray to take along and make a stylish entrance at their next party or event. (And they have lots of great samples!

Next a coffee break at Coffee Tyme, voted the best coffee shop in Cape May.

Afterwards it was time for dessert, where we went to two of Cape May’s iconic places. The first being the legendary Fudge Kitchen which has been there for over 50 years.

Since 1972, The Original Fudge Kitchen has been renowned for crafting its signature fudge with love and care. Each batch is expertly hand-whipped daily in traditional copper kettles, ensuring a delightful and creamy treat that’s second to none.

And last but not least, the Cape May Peanut Butter Co. which is a haven for peanut butter lovers. Want a giant peanut butter cup? They got you covered.

The establishment maintains a regular inventory of house-flavored nut butters, including popular varieties like Honey Roast, Butterscotch, Cappuccino, Chocolate Chocolate, Organic and Natural peanut butters, along with Almond, Sunflower, and Cashew butters. They also introduce limited-edition small-batch flavors, which generate enthusiasm and anticipation among their customers. The team at the establishment thoroughly enjoys the creative process of developing new flavors, and some of their cherished creations have included Smoked Vanilla, Maple Bacon, Peppermint, Coconut, and Chocolate Chipotle.
