Wellness Wednesday: Raising the Bar at RWJ Fitness and Wellness Center

For this installment of “Wellness Wednesday” I visited RWJ Fitness and Wellness Center which has locations throughout New Jersey. RWJ Fitness & Wellness Center is known for a variety of lifestyle & exercise programs customized to meet your needs. I took a tour and some classes at their center in Old Bridge, NJ.

Some things to expect when visiting a RWJ Fitness and Wellness Center are a large selection of state-of-the-art cardio equipment, free weight area with a wide variety of strength training equipment, an aquatic center with a lap pool, therapy pool & spa pool, and fitness studios which offer unlimited classes with your membership.

They offer a large variety of classes from yoga, zumba, spinning, swimming, stretching, toning and more.

I took a “Toning on the Bar” class which is designed to create long, lean muscles through a low-impact, total-body toning class with Pilates-inspired exercises.

The instructor was Jodi Berkowitz who also happens to be the group fitness manager at RWJ. Along with managing the Group Fitness department, Jodi oversees the Pilates Reformer department. I also took a 30min one-on-one pilates reformer class with her.

Pilates Reformer is an exercise machine used to incorporate the pilates exercise technique for a challenging and intense workout. Springs, leverage and body weight are used as resistance while performing movements targeting specific muscle groups. It’s a great class for beginners (like me) and Olympic athletes!

What makes RWJ Fitness and Wellness unique is that in addition to being a gym they are also medically based facility guided by a Medical Advisory Board. The offer physical therapy and wellness programs for patients have been diagnoses with issues like cancer, cardiac illness, diabetes, Parkinson’s, and more.

They also have a spa on premises!

In addition to fitness and well being, the Old Bridge location has their own restaurant on premises called “The Ultimate Grill” which is also open to the public. Ultimate Grill offers healthy, guilt-free meals such as wraps, salads, smoothies, protein shakes, entree’s, and meal plans with breakfast, lunch and dinner options.
