Wellness Wednesday Feature: Ono Bowls in Westfield, NJ
In looking to increase my overall wellness and be a healthier person, I stopped by Ono Bowls in downtown Westfield. Ono is a word which means delicious in Hawaiian.
During my visit I got a chance to meet owner Tricia Caminos who was inspired to begin her business after living in Hawaii for several years. She was deeply inspired by the island’s culture, beauty and remarkable people. She began eating clean and starting juicing daily, and has never stopped. She attributes her happiness and well being partially to juicing and eating right.
She had her first Acai bowl in 2010 on the North Shore of Oahu and was hooked. When she moved back to her homestate of NJ, she could not find a juice and bowl bar that kept 100% true to the health, so decided to start her own and along came Ono Bowls. The goal was to service her community with only the best, healthiest ingredients, never caving to the demand of toppings and oversized portions.
While juice bars and Acai bowls have become a popular healthy trend, one of the things that makes Ono Bowls stand out is their menu mostly vegan, all gluten free and 100% real plant based food. They also commit to using local farmers when available and local friendly beekeepers.
Their juice bar features a plethora of different juices designed to help cholesterol, immunity, weight loss, women’s health, digestions, and more. I ended up getting the first juice on their menu, the Anti-Up which aids in anti-aging. The juice is made with apple, celery, cucumber, kale, and lemon.
Although I was not immediately excited about a juice so green, I have to say that it was exceptionally delicious. I’ve had green juice before and they were not exactly tasty, but Ono Bowls is great with combining flavors!
Because I was at Ono Bowls I also got…an Ono Bowl! The Acaiya is a combination of an Acai bowl and a Pitaya Bowl (smoothie) with pineapple, banana, granola, and honey on top.
It was delightful!! The perfect portion, I left feeling full but light.
In addition to juice and bowls, Ono Bowls also offers the healthy options of oatmeal and toast with their own unique take.
Overall Caminos stays true to the meaning of her products, which are meant to provide overall health and wellness. By offering delicious food that is also very healthy, she believes she can change the mindset of the people to eat better foods which results in a healthier mind body and spirit.
Caminos says, “The best part of Ono Bowls is the family we have created both internally and externally in our customers”. I met two of her young hardworking team members, which Tricia admits to the success of her social media, websites, music playlist, YouTube channel, and day to day operations.
