Wellness Wednesday: Genophyll Labs in Monmouth Junction

For our first Wellness Wednesday feature of 2021 we picked Genophyll Labs, a testing facility located in Monmouth Junction founded by Aditi Luthra.

Established in early 2020 in New Jersey, the vision of Genophyll Labs is to create radically accessible diagnostics and expand reach to underserved communities. Out of 100 laboratories in New Jersey, Genophyll Labs is one of the few women, minority, and “Gen Z” owned laboratories in NJ.

In January 2021, Genophyll created “Genophyll Labs,” having received permission to perform RT-PCR testing for Coronavirus from the CLIS and CLIA regulatory bodies. Genophyll aims to differentiate itself in the following ways:
– Accessible sample collection site (make an appointment by emailing or calling)
– 24/7 customer service, via phone and text
– Courier pick-up from doctor’s offices, nursing homes, and surgical centers
– Saliva testing using the OM-505 device by DNA Genotek (pending approval from CLIS/CLIA regulatory bodies)

One of the ways they stand out is delivering 24h-hour turnaround times from the moment your samples reach the lab. Just let them know your deadlines (i.e. surgery date, travel requirements) so that they can prioritize your test accordingly.

Genophyll has revolutionized the laboratory services space by being the first laboratory you can text & follow on TikTok making them as reachable and accessible as a close friend. Part of their mission statement reads, “We care about you. We advocate for you. We make viral dance videos with you. And we won’t leave your messages on read.”

Furthermore, they are fundraising to make sure that for every $100 raised, Genophyll Labs will test a vital member of our community who faces higher chances of Covid-19 exposure at their sample collection site for free (ie teachers, grocery store workers, restaurant staff). Funding a Covid-19 test will also secure Genophyll Labs’ place in the Central NJ community as the “Gen-Z laboratory.”

For us, being a Gen-Z laboratory means:
(1) Redefining service by modernizing how we communicate with you & make your insurance pay
(2) Roll out cutting-edge, “next generation” tests. In short, the science is there and we need laboratories like Genophyll willing to commercialize these tests so that we have less dead-ends when we bring our symptoms to our doctors.
(3) Bring values and activism to our testing: We are more than a laboratory or a provider. We are leaders bringing positive change to our broken healthcare system. To us, this responsibility means advocacy with our lawmakers and working with insurance companies rather than automatically sending patients the bills their insurance rejected. Yes, that means when your insurance doesn’t pay, we don’t automatically send you the bill, singing “Thank you, next”

Help fund a Covid-19 test for teachers, grocery & restaurant staff while supporting the only lab bringing values & activism to their testing. To help support the lab, click their Ifundwomen.com fundraiser here. (Ends March 31)
