The Village Diner in South Orange: Review
Located in downtown South Orange (a very hip area), sits the Village Diner!
First impressions of the diner:
– I loved the setting. It’s close to everything in downtown and is close to parking garages and parking lots.
– It may be one of the only diners that is pet friendly since they allow outdoor seating
– and you’re greeted with this sign when walking in the door…
I arrived at an awkward dinner time so the place wasn’t too busy, and I was happy to see I wasn’t the only person there eating alone. The waitress, who was very friendly, told me to sit wherever I’d like so I sat near the window so I could people/dog watch.
Because it was a weekday, the diner was featuring lots of great dinner specials which I “had” to take advantage of. All the specials came with a choice of soup or salad and a dessert.
I started my meal with a matzoh ball soup, my favorite diner soup. It was delicious!
Because I’m “trying” to eat healthier, I was attracted to their salmon burger special. This homemade salmon burger was served on 7 grain bread, avocado, and LTO. It also came with a side of sweet potato fries, which was something I was craving before I even arrived. Meant to be!
Dessert options were ice cream, jello, or rice pudding…so I went with rice pudding which is usually a hit or a miss at a diner.
Lucky for me, the rice pudding was delicious and it was the perfect sized dessert. I definitely could not have eaten any more!
Overall I really enjoyed my trip to the Village Diner! I’m glad I know I have a great diner in downtown South Orange to visit the next time I’m in town.
